Don't mean this to sound negative in any way, but why is Logos no longer sold anywhere but Logos? In other words, not at Christianbook.com, ThomasNelson, etc.?
Shawn,
I believe that Bob P spoke about that here on the forums...he said that the sales were minimal VS the "shrinkage" that Logos was experiencing.....
shrinkage = product that just "disappeared" and nobody can explain it...[:$]
Bob, it came up during Beta testing. I don't think that it's been addressed publicly. But, the issue is all about minimal returns.

I know when I bought my first base package it was cheaper to purchase it from logos rather than my local Christian bookstore.
I do wonder however, how Logos will gain ground in Australia if it isn't sold in our two biggest Christian bookstores...but in reality, the Australian market would be miniscule.

I don't remember him speaking about theft. However there was the problem of the product languishing on the bookstore shelf so long that newer versions were available than what the bookstores were stocking. High end Bible software and Christian bookstores are really serving two different markets. Plus the trend is online shopping, with brick-and-mortar bookstores available for impulse buys and the pop-culture market.
I've dug up the thread where Bob P talked about the decision to pull from resellers, if anyone is interested

Well my memory has failed me again.. It wasn't during the beta ... The days are blurring together...

Yes, from the large chains.
I remember reading somewhere that in some markets (Australia may be one), bookstore sales may be sufficient to justify continuing to go that route. But I can't point to a specific discussion and searching these forums effectively is next to impossible.
Thanks Kevin,...................... explains it all.
I was talking with the software department of our largest Christian retail chain a few weeks ago and he said that Logos has stopped suppling them. I hope this changes for Australians because most Australian Christians would shop for software at these stores.
I noticed the other day that they are still selling Logos 3 - I wondered whether I should say something...It would be unfair to any purchaser and would look bad for Logos (even though it is the stores fault).

If actual theft is the problem, I think that can be addressed (BTW: Did you know that the bible is the most stolen book?). We all know that Microsoft sells its OS and Office and other products through computer stores, office supply stores, etc. All that needs to be done is to put an empty box out on the shelf that the customer then takes to checkout to purchase the item. That's how the theft problem is solved with most software. Problem solved.
Here's the earlier thread on the subject:
