Default directory

I have recently upgraded to L5. One of the reasons is that I was hoping to leave behind the many indexing problems that have plagued my L4. I have also had problems with many updates.

The good news is that L5 is running very smoothly.

I thought it might be time to update my non-internet laptop which is still running L3.

So what's the problem?

1. My C drive is an SSD. Fairly small so I set Windows to place User files on D drive.

2. I originally installed L4 not into the default directory but into \Logos 4, again to save space on my small C drive.

3. I now note that L4/5 has been using C:\Users\ to install some files ....153M.

4. I have an almost complete L4/5 installation in \Users 27G

5. \Logos 4 contains 43.2 G (with a different random ID).

6. The registry says the installation is in \Logos 4.

I need to tidy all this up. How do I move everything to ONE directory. This directory COULD be on the SSD C: drive, and I would prefer it be called C:\Logos5.

A custom installations will still create C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Logos4, but the only folder is \Install for the installation files.

If you have the one installation on the laptop and the HKCU registry key for Logos4 says \Logos4 then you can get rid of \Users (but rename it until you are sure everything is working).

Once you've settled that Logos 5 is installed to \Logos4 then you can move it to C:\ with Method 2 -->http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers (I'm assuming that it can get access to the internet if you upgraded it to L5) Just specify the installation path as C:\ and it should install to C:\Logos5, but the registry key still remains as Logos4!

Note: that you will have to install L5 using the link to your upgrade in (your) Orders on logos.com.

In my haste perhaps I didn't make everything clear.

I have 2 computers.

1. At home now using L5 ... but with all the directory complications as mentioned.

2. A laptop at a remote location which is not connected to the internet ... now running L3. I could connect this laptop to the internet via my mobile phone for small things like activation, but not to download massive amounts.

I have copied the working L5 installation onto an external HDD to take it to the remote laptop.

On the remote laptop running L3 will I be able to install L5 immediately, or do I have to install L4 then upgrade to L5?

Curious about Windows version on laptop running Libronix 3 ?

Logos 5 uses .NET Framework 4.5 that Microsoft choose to not support on Windows XP so Logos 5 cannot be installed on Windows XP.

No, Logos 5 does not need Logos 4 to be installed. Caveat: if Logos 4 is installed for a user, then installing Logos 5 will upgrade Logos 4 to Logos 5.

On Windows 7, personally choose to install Libronix 3, then created one user for Logos 4.6 installation. Created another user, then custom installed Logos 5 for that user. Thankful can run Libronix 3 and Logos 4/5 at the same time.

You can't install L4 from the L5 backup. You can Install L5 provided:-

the laptop is running Vista/Win7/Win8 (it won't install on Win XP)
you can install .NET 4.5 via standalone installer from Microsoft (unless the laptop has Windows 8)
you have the install files from the C:\...Logos4\Install directory of your other computer

Here is the update as promised.

1. The good news ius that L5 is up and running on my remote laptop.

2. A got a few surprises along the way .... I prepared by downloading the .net4 installation exe. However I soon found out this was the just the set up program (4M) I needed the standalone installation exe (about 40M).

Once I started the L5 installation several files also needed to be downloaded ... divX, more .net etc about 100M altogether. This exceeded my mobile phone limit (which I was using for emergency internet connection).

Once L5 started the Library needed to be Prepared. This took about 1 hour, but there was no indication of what progress was being made. I didn't have logging on so just had to wait.

Eventually L5 started and all is well.

Total time .... about 5 hours. Remember the mobile phone connection was very slow.

Were you following Method 1 for the installation and did you find dxsetup.exe (directX) in your other computer's \installer folder?

How was the need for "more .net" files communicated (during the install of .NET or after)?

I was following Method 1.

dxsetup was not in my original installer directory.

The .net files were downloaded automatically. I just noticed that they were being downloaded (and then installed) half way through the download.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd say that could have been avoided if you had been offline i.e. .NET would have been functional without the updates.
