English-Greek Reverse Interlinear of the NRSV Apocryphal Texts

I've had this title on prepub since it was put on. In checking out the product page again, I noticed that this data set is a part of many of the Verbum packages. Seeing it in those packages made me wonder, as someone who upgraded to L5 Portfolio, why wasn't this included in the L5 Portfolio package as well?

I have no problem paying for it when it comes out next week. Just a bit curious Smile

Hm. Maybe because Portfolio is part of a markedly US-protestant line of base packages and the apocryphal texts are of less prominence there (as opposed to the Verbum packages)?

Not discounting your comment Mick which is probably the reason behind it, but I think it warrant's being part of Portfolio. Portfolio includes the NRSV and also the apocryphal texts so seriously why not include the extra NRSV interlinear data? or turn the question around why has the apocryphal texts been included in Portfolio of they are of much less prominence to protestant interest.

I actually added a Verbum package on top of my Logos 5 package and paid a very small price compared to the actual resources that were added to my library and what I would have paid for them individually, even in comparison to their pre-pub prices. It was probably close to the best "Christmas Sale" item I've gotten from Logos in terms of value for money.

So i guess its moot for me personally as I've already got the license for this product. But just saying I think it should be in portfolio, surely us protestants who purchase Portfolio wouldn't be offended by it being there.

The real question is: why wasn't it included in all regular base packages, or at least all that have the NRSV RI's?

Now, I'm 'High' so I don't mind using Verbum -- In fact I prefer it -- but I can think of some more confessional Lutherans who'd never buy a Catholic package, and who'd be rather upset to only be offered a mutilated Bible to work with. Logos has, after all, designed their software in such a way that RI's are necessary for a whole lot of the functionality.

I think the politically correct term is 'canonically challenged.' Being an inheritor of the more restricted canon, I took your comment tongue in cheek. I trust you meant it that way.

That said, I agree. Even for us 'canonically challenged' types, the fuller (Western) canon is extremely useful in LXX studies, as background for some NT passages, and for a fuller understanding of Greek vocabulary. Besides, some of the stories are a good read.

Andrew, I agree with you 100%! I think also it warrants being part of portfolio! I am Lutheran and don't often think of myself as being "protestant," but that's another story, eh?? *smile*(

I know what you mean, I am Anglican now but was raise in the ELCiC and use to joking tell my Anglican friends we were expelled, you left so the king could get a divorce. I do like most things Catholic scholarly wise. I have notice in the evangelic and catholic camps both seemingly marked hardening of positions and in some cases reversion to earlier values (I have no issue with people wanting to use the Bible to guide ones life, but seemingly silly traditions given up over 50 years ago boggles my mind). I have loved the apocryphal works for many years, like Luther I will not draw any doctrine from it alone, but enjoy it greatly. I have Verbum because for me personally I can more easily identify with RC more than some evangelical movements. I like good scholarship from all schools of thought and while most pre vatican II works on the Bible hold little interest for me, I am vary happy to see Logos get many different Catholic works. I still wish they would just go ahead and get the New Interpreter's Bible made since it covers all the catholic books and is a wonder resource and I would guess would be welcome by many catholic users.

I don't think this is surprising in that hardening of positions is a common response to feeling threatened socially, economically, spiritually ... and I can see a number of reasons for people feeling threatened. As Catholics we refer to it as nostalgia for something they never knew - nostalgia is ever so much sweeter if you get to make it up from scratch.[:D]

A very common view - Luther was hardly alone on this.

I would guess would be welcome by many catholic users.

I hear you I am a little guilty of preordering things a little too freely in fact too…. I just canceled a dozen items that I thought would be useful but realized I could not afford at this time. I have even preordered several resources at request of people that I thought deserve publication and have occasionally canceled them. It is not fair of me to encourage people to pre order something that they won't purchase or can't afford, I have encouraged people to pre order it and examine it when ready. I have also found that Logos is very good at turning a preorder into a something added to monthly payments or if you have none starting one for it. I really wanted Brazos and Baker Wisdom, while I could't layout the funds for it all at once a quick email had it ordered at pre pub pricing on a payment plan.

I never did understand why the NRSV RI 'apocrypha' were so delayed. I bet they (Rick?) got busy, what with the new L5 functionality.

But whether protestant, or catholic or even jewish, I'd think the group of books is important for using 'Logos-magic'. The writings reflect a stage of greek that the 1st century participants were clearly working off of.

Maybe the protestant Portfolio purchasers don't really need all the wonderful 'magic'? I sure enjoy it.
