My notes from Android are not synced
I have added some new notes on my Android Logos App and cannot see them on my Mac. I see the notes file but it is unchanged.

Hello, everybody!
It seems to be that syncing is not working at all.
- If I add any new note to existed note file, I do not see it on my Mac then.
- If I add new note note file on my Mac, I cannot see it on my Android mobile device, i.e. cannot choose this file to add a note to it.
As one can conclude according to http://www.logos.com/android notes should be synced to all devices, so I hope somebody is able to give me an appropriate advice to solve the problem.
Thank you!

Hi Dmitri

What version of the Android App and Logos software are you using?
How long are you waiting for sync to happen?

If you create a new notesfile on Android can you see the notesfile on your Mac?
If I add new note note file on my Mac, I cannot see it on my Android mobile device, i.e. cannot choose this file to add a note to it.
Just to clarify - this means that when you are in the notes editor and go into the "Document selection" menu you can't see the new note?
Have you "forced exited" the Android app and restarted it to force a sync? Does that make any difference?

Hi, Graham,
Thank you for the answer!
What version of the Android App and Logos software are you using?
I use Logos Bible Software 4.6a SR-5 (4.61.0.3387) on my iMac under Mac OS X 10.7.5, and Logos Bible Software 2.2.8.1 (Build 65) on my Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) under Android 4.0.4.
How long are you waiting for sync to happen?
Last time I was waiting for several hours with no result.

Actually, Graham, I did not find such option on Android to check the case

Exactly! I do not see the new file in "Note Documents" menu.

Yes, Graham, I have tried both cases many times, it did not help.
I think that something is wrong with my Android Application. I just have successfully tested Logos on my Windows laptop, iPad and Mac, and everything is fine, I got my notes synced. But the fact is I spent several hours with my Android App on the train and have made many notes in many books, and I need them to be synced now, but I can't.

Hi, Graham, the problem is solved, now I can add/change notes on my Android App both online and offline, and sync them to all other devices.
As I supposed the problem was on the side of Android App. I have to use "Settings" - "Applications" - "Clear Data" option to get sync function working right. For safety, of course, I have retyped my last notes first to get them all on my Mac before using "Clear Data" option, but now the problem is solved.

Hi Dmitri
Great to hear that the problem is solved and thanks for posting back to explain what you did.
Hopefully that will help others in the future

Hi Graham
To my regret I got the same problem. My notes are synced without any problem from my iPad to iMac and back, but I cannot get them synced using Android App again.
Of course, I have already described "the solution", but the one is not good enough, because I should re-type my notes first.
Do you have any idea?
Dmitri

I am having the same problem.
Using latest version of Logos 5 for PC and latest Android App on Samsung Note Tab 2 with 4.3.
I have not really tried to "use" notes from the Andoid side, but just noticed that they were not in sync. I tried a few proposed solutions (force stop, making a duplicate of a note file at documents.logos.com to force sync, clearing cache).
FYI: the web site documents.logos.com was in sync with the data on the PC.
Finally clearing data worked. Of course that would mean losing all my note modifications on the Andoid side (had I made any).
And it erased all the books I had downloaded to the device for times when I don't have a connection by either wi-fi or data. (Those situations can occur even in this modern age.) I don't look forward to going through by library to do that again. (Will Logos re-download those books automatically? It could if that info is stored online, which is seems to be.)
Is this being acknowledged as a bug yet?
Apart from deleting data (which is not a fix) could there be a a feature put in to force a sync?

Will Logos re-download those books automatically?
4.0.13 has a bug that is preventing automatic downloading of books after you reinstall the app. We fixed the bug this morning and just deployed the fix, so you should see an update soon for 4.0.14 that fixes the auto-download issue.

We definitely acknowledge that it's a bug and we have already spent quite a bit of time looking into these note sync issues. The problems:
- We haven't ever been able to reproduce the issue on any of our devices
- Notes are one of the most complicated pieces of data that we sync at Logos. Plus, many users have literally thousands of notes in single documents, which makes for very complicated syncing and merging of data. We definitely don't want to go making changes in that code unless we're absolutely certain it will fix the problem...it would be very easy to accidentally make things much worse.
- The apps currently don't have great logging facilities to get us more information about what happens when sync stops working.
Our next step is going to be addressing that last point: I'm planning on adding a facility that lets users (optionally) send us their local notes database when they click "Send Support Info". If we can examine the database of a person who's having sync issues, there's a decent chance it would help us figure out how to fix things.
Apart from deleting data (which is not a fix) could there be a a feature put in to force a sync?
I would love it if this were that easy to fix, but unfortunately it isn't. When sync stops working, it's because the code that runs sync is crashing. We catch the crash before it causes the entire app to crash, but the gist of it is that the code errors in such a way that it can't recover well enough to complete the task of syncing. So a "Force Sync" button would just cause that code to run again and crash again. What may be more useful is a page in the app that showed the status of all the different sync endpoints in the app so you could know if any of them are failing. I'll bring that up to the rest of the mobile team and see what they think.

I had the same issue as Dmitri and the clearing of the data was what helped get them back in sync.
Obviously not the most elegant of solutions to be sure, but an effective one. Thank you
