Why a Logos 5 or Verbum base package?

Hello folks. I've been a faithful user of Logos 4 for only a few months, jumping on board with the Catechism of the Catholic Church package last year. I do not own a complete base package, but have since spent several hundred dollars on additional Logos resources, and see many, many more I look forward to investing in. Now I'm rather dismayed, however, at all the great excitement over Logos 5 and Verbum. I would like very much to ride the bandwagon and upgrade, but I presently have a very limited budget and just don't see, looking at the additional resources that a Logos 5 base package would provide, that it would be worth my while or money. What argument can anyone give for upgrading, other than not feeling left out and obsolete? I'm otherwise inclined to keep picking up the resources I need piecemeal. Do I have to buy a Logos 5 base package to gain access to Logos 5's new features, even though I've already spent and plan to continue to spend more than the cost of a base package?

Basically: yes.

If you spent much already (maybe you have the Catholic Library Builder, or some of the larger RC collections such as cardinal Newman or pope Benedict?) then the upgrade price may be substantially lower, since you won't pay twice for the resources. But it still is a couple of dollars.

However, you should take a look at Logos Core datasets and the Minimal Crossgrade which will give you most/all of the new features at a reduced price.

If you plan to spend "more than the cost of a base package" in the future, you should really check whether the resources you're interested in are contained in a Verbum package (assuming you lean more to the RC side) or in one of the "customize" deals you're eligible for when you upgrade. Some of these are really much better than any other sales offers for the same resources. I'd suggest you put these together and decide what it will be and if it's worth it, since you may end up paying more than your upgrade would be and if you later upgarde anyway you probably won't get the same deals.

The only argument which makes sense - at least to me - is whether the additional value it provides you is worth how much it would cost you. Only you can assess this.

There are many great features there - which I am really finding useful (today, the clause search and additional features in Bible Word Study have been particularly useful to me) - but it all depends on how useful you would find them.

That is a good strategy unless there are sufficient resources in one of the base packages which you will want in the future. The cheapest way to get these resources is in base packages and the current discounts will be expiring shortly (I don't know exactly when)

No - you can get a couple of cheaper crossgrade options and there will be a free engine next quarter which will give some of the new UI capability but not all of the features.

One option is using creating Wish List(s) of Logos resources => https://www.logos.com/user/wishlists

Personally, the delta increase from Diamond to Portfolio was less than 10 % of the combined regular price for a number of resources, which were on my wish list. Also, the overall Portfolio upgrade was less than 48 % of the combined regular price for new resources in Portfolio that were on my wish list. Thankful for Logos payment plan, which does not charge interest on the outstanding balance. Caveat: monthly fee for processing payment is passed along.

Looking at my order history, noted would have been less expensive if had done fewer upgrades.

Piecemeal regular price for three volumes at $ 12.95 each is $ 38.85; buying them in a collection is $ 30.95; in one large bundle, the collection is $ 11.66 while in a different extra large bundle, the collection is $ 9.71 (in small bundle $ 15.66; in medium bundle $ 13.58 and in large bundle $ 11.54). Logos has dynamic pricing for Logos 5 base packages, minimal crossgrade, and Christmas book bundles, which calculates pricing for resource(s) that would be added to your Logos library.

A friend upgraded from Logos 4 Platinum to Logos 5 Silver then purchased Logos 5 minimal crossgrade for less than $ 7.
