Question about Francis Chan Collection

Several months ago the three of the six books in the Francis Chan Collection was free on Vyrso. I took advantage, and from what I understand when a book goes from a Vyrso to a Logos resource its a free upgrade to the new Logos version. My question is will there be an pre-order or update option for the 3 handbooks that come in the collection. Those are the only volumes I don't have.

Noticed that also but I'm happy to pay for the full collection since I got those three for free anyway - there has been no cost to me up until this point - For someone who did pay for Vyrso versions its a good question to ask. I guess the issue for Logos is that if the majority of people who have the Vyrso format got it for free, should they be then just giving away three full Logos books to those same people. Or is it fair for people who got the version with no quality control to now pay for a remake with quality control (one would assume since they are not going to be full format Logos books).

For me I'd have no problem if there was a special pricing available through a sales rep for those who actually paid for the Vyrso versions, while the rest of us who got if for free just pay the full pre-pub price. But that is only my personal opinion. It's grey, rather than black & white, question, perhaps, an ethical question, rather than a moral one, so I respect others who got the free Vyrso offer will see it differently and in no way making judgement on anyone else's thoughts, just offering mine.

Like many of you I also took advantage of the vyrso freebies. But it sounds like incredible chutzpah to ask for a discount on the full set because of that. As far as I am concerned, if you want the full set and it would be useful to you, pay the regularly reduced intro price. If Logos happens to upgrade my books to the full version so they only have to support one version, great luck for me. But if they don't, I still got what I paid (nothing) for, and have nothing to complain about.

I am not asking or expecting anything or a discount. It has been Logos stated policy that if a resource is in Vyrso and switches to Logos, the Logos copy downloads when resources are updated.. They won't keep two copies on the servers. I don't mind paying for the book, I just thought based upon Logos previous statements that the Vyrso version would no longer be on the servers, I just don't want two copies of the books. I am merely trying to find out if since I own the ebooks, but not the handbooks, if I can just purchase those resources not in my library. If not that's fine. I wasn't demanding a discount, or expecting anything free. I just wanted to purchase the handbooks. If the books are not updated that's fine to, I was basing my comments on Logos statements.

For what's worth i never took it you were demanding anything Philana, simply read your post as a question seeking clarification. Was just throwing my thoughts out there on my personal expectations. I think your question still deserves an answer to clarify the situation. Unfortunately Logos likes to keep policy a bit fuzzy (which is not necessarily a bad thing) but hope this situation can be cleared up. Apologies if what I said distracted from that.

Thanks Andrew, no apologies needed. It just seemed like my question was being misunderstood. What with the chutzpah reference. I just wondered if there would be a way to purchase the handbooks seperately as Pre-pubs, since I have the companion ebooks, I just thought I could purchase the handbooks. My understanding about how changes from a Logos resource to Vyrso was is they will no longer have a Vyrso version available to download at all and the only option for reinstalling from the servers would be one version. I could have been mistaken.

This discussion is making me ask more questions about the differences between Logos and Vyrso. Is there a difference is how each of these programs creates a book? I just assumed that they were identical but maybe I'm wrong.

It's not the programs that create the books... The Logos and Vyrso apps can read the same resource files. There IS however, a difference in the files. Actually, there are three resource file types: Logos, eBook (aka "Vyrso"), and user created (aka "personal books"). Personal books are ones you create from .docx files with the PBB. Vyrso editions are created from publisher provided eBook formats and is largely an automated process. Logos editions are high quality, hand edited works, with hyperlinks to other resources.

Personally I think Logos has incredible chutzpah to bundle these together so instead of being able to buy one book you have to shell out $60 and buy six, at least three of which I would never read. Quite frankly I can see it driving sales away to those who offer them individually.

There aren't supposed to be ANY duplicates... But it does happen from time to time. Generally, when Logos is made aware, they eliminate the Vyrso edition. This thread is actually about that very subject... There was a Francis Chan work offered in Vyrso which has since been removed. Logos is producing a "Logos" edition of the resource. It is my understanding that those who own the Vyrso edition will get the upgrade when it comes out. Going forward, there will not be a publicly available "Vyrso" edition of that resource.

I too have these Francis Chan Vyrso resources. Will these transformations happen automatically? How do we know when they are converted?

I believe that it will happen, but I am not 100% sure. If it does happen, it will be automatic, and happen just like any other resource update. You will know because you will receive a download. You can either check your Logos4/5 homepage, or sort your library by most recently updated. Also, in the resource info panel, it will say "Logos edition" instead of "eBook."

The fact that the books were freebies at one point is incidental. Although you paid for the resource and I got it for free (not to rub it in [:P]), we both "own" a license for the book(s). Everyone who owns the resource in its Vyrso format will either 1) get the updated version or 2) not get the updated version depending upon what Logos finally decided about the issue. Whether you paid for it or not is irrelevant.

By the way… there are many freebies and discounted books in Vyrso. Sometimes these deals last for a month or longer… many last for just a day. Some of these deals are extended to us by Logos directly… many are discounts by the publishers.
