Logos app 3.1.4
Just saw that there was a new update to the Logos app, 3.1.4
I have downloaded and installed it, but it crashes on the splash screen. This happens both being online and when I am off line.

The app crashed six times in a row before it started probably.

Yes, it is working well now.
It s just a little stressful when the Logos app crashes several times after an update, and none of the other apps I use on a regular basis don't have this kind of behavior.

I can appreciate your frustration... I don't, however, experience the same thing. I find the app fairly stable. If you have issues again, let us know ASAP. Perhaps we can help troubleshoot.

Were you somewhere with a known highly reliable WiFi (not 3G/4G) connection when you applied the upgrade?

Yes, I updated at home.
The Vyrso app crashed twice when that one updated before before it would open and fiction correctly.

The update worked without a problem for me.

This is one of the great and mysterious thing about software, even on the desktop side. One person can experience a problem and some one else does not.

A big thumbs up on allowing us to search Bible reference ranges.

Where / how do you do that?
I also still don't know what function the "Shelf" has. Has anybody figured this out?

In the search panel - with Bible selected - there is no a range selector next to the translation. In the screenshot below I have pressed this and it open up to show the currently defined search ranges (these are defaults)
If you press the "+" in the top-right of that panel, you get the option to choose your own ranges using the standard verse picker.

Thanks, Graham. I looked for it in the Vyrso app (which I had just open) and could not find it. But it is there in the Logos app.

Has anyone seen release notes for this update? Logos has been inconsistent at best in posting release notes here. The info on the device itself is fairly short, but maybe they're relying on that now to represent release notes for the mobile devices.

I haven't seen anything yet except what's on the device.
Sometimes I seem to remember a day or so between the release being available and notes being posted on the forums.

I think they're relying on the AppStore "What's New" section to distribute the release notes. Is that what you mean by "on the device"? They're pretty complete in my opinion, and more people should see them there than here. Here's the web version:

Is that what you mean by "on the device"?
Yes, that's what I meant. I never go to the iTunes store - either on the device or on the web. I go to the app store very rarely - only when looking for a specific app or to upgrade one I have, like Logos Bible. So all I see is the notes on the "Updates" screen of the app store.

Sorry. We've been a little behind on the communication of release notes, what with the pre-Christmas scurrying-about and folks on vacation. I'll post a new thread with the release notes, but they're pretty much the same as what Todd posted here.

Just a heads up...
I rely strongly on my mobile divices for Logos...after all that is one reason why we are willing to pay such high prices for the Logos e-books.
But I have learned the hard way to NEVER EVER do the updates to the Apps when they first come out. They are just too unreliable. I always wait at least a week or 2 and even then I always check the forums to see if there are any problems with the update. Logos usually have the updates fixed within a week or 2 and then it is safe to download.

I have had just the opposite experience. Never a problem and I download them as soon as they are available.

Are you sure this is correct? I can't remember ever having an issue with an iOS update. All updates have been Beta tested prior to release and I find them very reliable. Once an update is released it is not changed until the next update which is usually a much longer time period than 2 weeks. Just my impression!

I agree that the releases are generally very stable… but there have been a view bugs over the past year which were not caught in beta testing, which prevented usage of the app. These didn't effect large numbers of users, but when you can't use your app, several days can seem like an eternity. I think Stephen was one of those users (if my memory is correct).

Yes...it is correct. I am glad you are not having a problem but I sure do. I don't understand why I do have so much trouble. Last January's update came and I dowloaded on my IPAD and promptly went oversears--the first time I had gone without my laptop. When I got to where I would be giving presentations, the Ipad kept crashing. I was left with nothing. This was pretty catastophic. The same thing happened again in September, I think it was, only at least that time I wasn't half way across the world.
Now, I could deal with the crashing. What really annoys me is that Logos knows about the problems BUT DOESN'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT THEM. When I was overseas trying to fix my crashing, I called the Logos help and they talk to me like they never heard of such a thing and knew nothing about any crashing problems. But when I went to the Forum I found out that many people were having crashing problems and that Logos would be putting out a fix shortly. Now why didn't Logos Help know that? Why didn't Logos put the problems they were having on their website or in the blog or send an -e-mail to let users know? If I had known, I might not have downloaded in the first place. Or if I had I wouldn't have spent hours over several days trying to fix my app and mobile device when there was nothing I could do about it.
Also, I was told that they couldn't fix the app in less than a week because Apple wouldn't allow any changes to updates for a designated amount of time--I think 7 days. Which I don't know if I really believe.
So my real beaf isn't so much with the crashing or unforseen problems...But with Logos because they should realize that many have become dependent on their system in personal study as well as professional. When it fails, they fail. Why can't they post somewhere when they are having problems or planned shutdowns so that the users can work around them.
A similar problem occurred a couple months ago when they took down their computers on a Saturday morning (I think it had something to do with switching to Logos 5). Unfortunately I needed to use the system for a message that afternoon. Needless to say, I was in a real jam again. I am sure the shutdown was planned...WHY CAN'T LOGOS LET US KNOW? They can certainly send us an e-mail everytime they want to sell us something.
