Dictionary in System Tray

Another one of the exquisite features of L3 that is ashamedly absent from subsequent versions is the option to have the Webster's Dictionary search box in the system tray. I use this feature on a daily basis.

I had to reload L3 due to a corrupt .dll file recently and now the dictionary icon is not in the tray. Is there something I have to do to get it there? Thanks.

The feature is called Dictionary Lookup in L3...I found it in the Help window, but it seems to just assume that it will be resident in the system tray (which it calls the "taskbar notification area" lol).

See if it is in the Addins tab and ticked (in General options from memory). If not there then run Libronix Update and look for it as an Optional item.

Well this morning I learned Libronix has a 'Home Page'. That'll be handy on my Libronix that runs behind my other Libronix.

And ... sure enough there IS a dictionary icon in the 'notification area' of the Virtual Box. Also convenient!

Gee ... what's next?!

An interesting link, to be sure. It reminds me of the absurdist argument that the common use of the phrase "begs the question" to describe a situation in which a typical onlooker will very likely pose a query motivated by the contingent circumstances, is a gross misapplication of the phrase. This silly argument is championed here. These folks appeal to history to make their case. Their problem, however, is much deeper than history. Their claim that "begging the question" refers to a kind of logical fallacy is itself perhaps the greatest of all logical fallacies. The reason is plain and simple--there is nothing about the inherent meaning of the phrase that describes the condition they say the phrase describes. It is very much like someone calling our planet a "celestial cube" and then getting upset when someone subsequently calls it a globe or a sphere and then calls them out for misapplying the terms "globe" and "sphere" to our planet. The argument is shere idiocy. The appeal to history does nothing but draw attention to the fact that the drasticly mistaken application of the phrase occurred a long time ago. The Wikipedia article on BTQ points out that the phrase never meant what the "logicians" illogically insist it did:

Microsoft is wrong. It isn't the "taskbar notification area"...it is the system tray. It is irrelevent what they called it...because that isn't WHAT IT IS. Yes, some of the stuff that is in the tray is a notification of one sort or another--but quite a lot is not. Most of what is there are programs that load into RAM at boot or program start-up, such as the L3 Dictionary tool. There is no notification of any sort related to that program being resident in the tray...the tray (doing what trays do) is merely the receptacle for holding things that one typically wishes to keep at arm's length. The link gives a plethora of reasons why the system tray isn't normally referred to as the notification area, and never will be, except by sticklers for the arcane.

Let me just be charitable. Perhaps at some point it was a "notification area"...but it is now something else, something much broader and more global. It LITERALLY IS "a tray for the system" to hold things that will be needed at arms length, very much like a butler at your elbow holding a tray . Let's end by being clear--contrary to the final comment, as it stands today (and for well more than a decade), "system tray" is NOT the misnomer..."notification area" is the misnomer, just as the first comment declared. It IS a system tray.

Thanks, Dave. Running Update did the trick. I use Dictionary Lookup constantly. Not having it is like living in the Stone Age. Vive L3!!!
