Safari crashes Logos 5 Mac

When I leave Logos 5 running for several hours, Safari becomes unusable and will crash when I try to connect to links from Google news. When this occurs and I try to quit Logos 5, but it requires a force quit. After the force quit I can restart Safari and it will run fine.

Unfortunately, Logos 5 continues the Logos 4 legacy of being my most uniquely unstable software.

Though Bob Prichett wrote that Logos is designed to be running all the time on the computer, I have never been able to use it this way because Logos' makes my entire Mac more unstable, in addition to hogging resources.

I am able to use Logos when I have few Logos resources open and when I quit Logos and restart it regularly.

Sorry to hear of your problem.

I contacted Tech Support concerning another issue related to Macs and they are working on a solution. With mine they were able to duplicate the problem on another Mac using the same combo of books I had open. Perhaps you could contact them and see if they can diagnose the problem and work out a solution. They have literally already spent hours on working on mine - so I feel they are devoted to seeing us receive a working program - though it seems there is a lot of unnecessary frustration (crashes) in the process. Instead of 'a release early and often strategy, which incorporates customer feedback' I would rather Logos take their time and release more stable programs (with less features, et. al. if necessary) then a crashing program .... or now a program that apparently crashes otherwise stable programs, i.e. Safari. I can sympathize with your frustration.

Since connecting to web site links causes more files to be downloaded and opened, curious about Safari crash root cause ? also wondering if related to => Logos 5.0a SR-2 CRASH (again!): Too many open files

Unfortunately, concur. Logos 5 is a resource intensive application, which opens lots of files. Thankful for personal OS X file limit tweak => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/62091/447232.aspx#447232 that seems to be a bit faster for now in Logos 5.0b Beta 1 on OS X 10.8.2

Curious about hardware specifications ?

Logos 4 and Logos 5 seem to be a bit sensitive to having adequate (or abundant) hardware for effective use: CPU, RAM, graphics, and storage.

Appears to be a mid 2010 model that has first generation i5-540M CPU. Note: 2nd Generation Intel i5 is noticeably faster at the same clock speed.

If do not use optical drive, may want to replace with Solid State Disk (SSD), which is one of the upgrades at => http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3 Personally have my Logos4 folder on a different volume with a link to ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4 The volume is available when OS X boots. SSD noticeably improves Logos performance.

Edit: Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive is a hard drive replacement option that would improve responsiveness plus increase free disk space.

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Slow_Performance that includes using Activity Monitor to look for significant paging. If paging is happening a lot from the memory needs of all open applications, may want to upgrade RAM.

Potentially could upgrade MacBook Pro hardware for 10 % of original cost so Logos 5 is more responsive.
