I may have missed this on the forum in mid-December. But if anyone else missed it:

For many of the scrolls, you can examine the images; very impressive. In Logos you may wish to add the web pages as favorites, etc for later use.

I'm wondering what other ways there are to use this in Logos.

My first thought was to make a Reading list (I tried to make one on 1QpHab), but I'm not satisfied with this. Would a Personal Book give better (search) results?

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts!

I'm not exactly sure what you have in mind. The Qumran texts as transcribed resources are already available in Logos and at a reasonable price compared with DJD. They are already integrated, tagged and searchable. Creating a searchable PB would seem to be a bit redundant. If you mean accessing the URL; then just dragging the URL from my browser to the Logos toolbar creates a shortcut which opens at a click. (That's what I've done. See screenshot)

As you can see, I have several different icons. The first three from the left are resources viz. COED, ESV, NIV-Anglicised. The next two are layouts. The two on the right are URLs viz. J.B. Phillips' NT, DSS Home Page.

This was nog what I had in mind. I already have both the QSM and the Biblical DSS Database.

I was merely thinking of a pbb (or a reading list or a note file) with links to the different images on the website so that when I'm reading a specific scroll (e.g. 11Q19, 1QpHab, 1Q Isaiah a, 1QM, etc.) the url will take me directly to the corresponding images on the internet.

Most people would probably just put a note? (I don't use notes.)

My preference is to use Favorites since they can be put in 'folders', plus I like to be able to see them all at the same time.

A Reading List sounds like a great idea, if you, or someone else, is willing to create one.

I've been considering signing on to one of the archaeological expeditions. It still costs for transportation, etc, but you stay for a while and manage to get your hands dirty.

Don't expect to have time for much else. Though with your background you should be able to get fairly fluent in modern Hebrew, besides all you'll learn about archaeology and ancient Israel. Provided, of course, you choose an Israeli dig, and not one of those run by some American University and taking place entirely in English.

Another option is one of the Christian guest houses that take in volunteers. Perhaps not as fun, but more free time.

I don't much care for heat myself, but since I'm living in the middle of Hades right now, I guess we tolerate what we must (Thank heaven for air conditioning). Hard work isn't a problem since I've always engaged in physical labor for many projects such as home repair and landscaping. I once went up into the mountains in southern California and got some huge boulders which I loaded into the back of the station wagon and wheelbarrowed them up the hill in the back of the house to create a stream bed and falls for the pool with koi for the Japanese garden. That also involved moving a lot of dirt. There are some people in Israel I would like to visit. Perhaps I could arrange to stay over a bit to see them.

Personally I have no wish to to. A friend of mine runs a college to train pastors in Galilee and I've been repeatedly asked to go. Ministerial colleagues host guided visits there and frequently ask me to go. For the life of me I can't figure out. I've no deep desire to go. In fact, as time goes on I travel less and less. I love where I live and am content. [:)] Now I've just got to work on the godliness bit. [;)]
