Irving Jensen's Do-It-Yourself Bible Study Guides

I was wondering if someone here on the Logos board might know the answer to this question:
I recall a post last year where people were asking for the Irving Jensen's Do It Yourself Study guides. These are different then the OT and NT surveys, and they are also different than the Self Study Guide Series.
I have been trying to find the Do It Yourself Bible Studies Guide to 1 Corinthians for a while with no success. Does anyone here know any of the following:
1) Where I might buy it other than the obvious Amazon, etc.
2) Someone who might be willing to sell a copy or...loan me a copy! I would be willing to put up funds to protect the return of it.
3) Whether or not Logos DOES intend on digitizing these studies. They are fantastic, and since they are out of print, I believe many people would love them. They are, in my humble opinion, much better than the Precept Studies.
Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Cynthia

Believe this sight is run by Dr Jensen's daughter.

Thanks! I'll give that a try, but the board appears to have been abandoned.

Don't believe they have abandoned it, as the home page was recently updated. In fact, it is not even that late here in Eastern US.
The Irvin Jensen page http://www.inductivebiblestudycentral.com/meet-the-inductive-bible-study-authors/irving-jensen.php shows the same date stamp. This may not be the sight I had in mind, will need to look further.

I totally agree Cynthia. This is the best bible study guide I have ever found too. Sorry I don't have the 1 Cor one.

It is only $3.95 on Amazon. Is that a problem?
I have that book, but it would cost almost that much to get it to you. A used Study Guide is listed cheaply, but would probably be self-defeating

Thanks for your reply, but that is not the one I was looking for. Those are the "Self Study Guides" of which I have the complete set. I am looking for the "Do It Yourself Bible Studies. They are more work book like.

Hello Jack:
I went to the website and noticed that every time I clicked around, it said that the page was updated...at that exact time. So, when I would back out and go back in, the time changed to the time I was on. Does that make sense. However, I don't see any posts since 2010 and even though I tried to "sign up" for classes, non exist.
If this IS her site, it seems as if almost everything points over to Precept Ministries, Kay Arthur and the Precept Studies, such as the 40 minutes series, Lord series, etc.
Also, here is a link that shows you what the Do it Yourself Series Looks like, which are different than the Self studies series.
Again, I thank you so much for your efforts here! I would love to get a hold of her and see if you knows where I could find the study!

Cynthia,
It's been a very long time I think, but Sharon did post here on the Forum on an inductive Bible study thread regarding her late Father's material, FYI, if that helps any.

Hello D Bouey:
Thank you for that information. I did a search and found her ministry website of Word Center Ministries. There was a link there to contact her, so I did. Hopefully, she will be able to direct me. Thanks again!

I believe this is the thread D mentioned http://community.logos.com/forums/p/6722/111566.aspx. The Sharon in that thread is Sharon Jensen, but I found no reference to Irving Jensen in the thread. Since there were a multitude of posts, I could have missed it. I remember the thread and thought I had exchanged messages with her concerning her father, but—alas—all those messages are in an obsolete email app [:'(]
Everything recent I can find through Google concerning Sharon Jensen shows her related to Precept Ministries and Kay Author. It is possible that there are two different ones.

Thanks for the follow up, Jack. Yes, that was the thread I found, which mentioned her ministry as "Word Center Ministries," so I do believe they are one and the same. I know she used to write/teach for Precept many years ago, but according to her website, now writes her own studies with her husband.

Hi you can find them all on Moody Publishing. Do a Google search...that's how i found them. They are about $10 per book and there are 45 different ones to choose from. I have the original 1 Corinthians with only 100 pgs however there's is listed with 117 pgs If I recall correctly. So it's not the first print it says 1990 reprint. Enjoy.

Welcome [:D]
Moody Publishers has the "Self-Study Guides", but the "Do It Yourself Bible Study Guides" were published by Here's Life Publishers, which has dissolved => http://www.bizapedia.com/ca/HERES-LIFE-PUBLISHERS-INC.html
Noticed Amazon shows many publishers of Irving L Jensen books: Here's Life Publishers, Harvest House Publishers, Moody Bible Institute, Moody Press, Moody Publishers, and World Wide Publications

I loved Jensen's Do It Yourself Study Guides. They helped me develop my approach decades ago. I'm sure they would be helpful to lots of people if they were available again.

Hello Tammy:
Thank you for your response.
Yes, those are the Self Study Guides. I'm Looking for the "Do it Yourself Study Guides" by Irving Jensen. Same Author, different publisher.
It has been over a year since I started this thread, and I STILL cannot find the 1 Corinthians Do It Yourself Guide.

Hi Cynthia,
I've located the ISBN for it from its Google Books listing: 9780898401165
I was able to find it on WorldCat, and there are five libraries that have a copy of it:
So maybe you could borrow it via Inter-Library Loan. Or if it isn't available for ILL from any of those institutions, if you know of someone who lives near one of those places, maybe you could send your friend in to photocopy it.
Another lead I found is Les Stobbe, who was for many years the editorial director and later president of Here's Life Publishers (which was the publishing subsidiary of Campus Crusade) until it was sold to Thomas Nelson. He's been blogging about his time there in a series of recent posts called God Moments in My Publishing Life (posts 10-17 in that series). He now runs Leslie H. Stobbe Literary Agency. I bet if anyone still has a copy of the book, he might, or might know who does, because it was published in 1983 during his tenure there as editorial director. He has a Contact page on his website, or you could try les (at) stobbeliterary (dot) com, which I found here.

Dear Cynthia --
HELLO . . . it's me, Dr. Jensen's daughter Karen . . . and I HAVE the Do-It-Yourself Bible studies . . . I would be happy to connect with you to send one of my extra copies. Reading these posts have just confirmed again that God wants these books (as well as possibly a few others that have been OP for many years) to be resurrected again somehow. Thank you for your persistence! Feel free to contact me at my email: scrapperkare@gmail.com

I don't have anything to add to this thread other than to say to Karen Jensen Collins that I remember meeting your father when he was still at Bryan College around 1985 when I entered as a freshman there. It was an honor to shake his hand. I still remember his warmth and ever-present smile even at meeting a teenager he didn't know. The joy of our Lord was evident in his face, his work, and his ministry.
My parents attended and graduated from Bryan in the 50s and spoke highly of him. He has obviously left a lasting legacy. I recall using his OT Survey text for one of my classes (and still have a copy over my shoulder here in my office) and I recall having a class that I believe followed your dad's inductive methods. It's been 30 years since then, so everything is a fuzzy memory now. I found this thread fascinating for what some have said about your dad's studies and how these folks have found them helpful.
May the Lord give you direction and wisdom as you consider how to proceed with possibly bringing some of his works back to print. Blessings to you!

Wow, Karen, amazing that you discovered this thread and responded. Thank you for making yourself known. I feel that it would be good to put someone in the Electronic Text Development group at Faithlife/Logos in touch with you to see if they'd like to pursue doing digital publication of your father's "Doi-It-Yourself Bible Studies" series. Do you hold the copyright on them, or would you be able to put them in touch with whoever is the copyright holder (a publisher)? I think the person to talk to would be Bill Nienhuis, Director of Publisher Relations & Services, Electronic Text Development (ETD), email: bill (at) faithlife (dot) (the usual 3-letter extension for company domain names).
I see that Google Books already has ebook editions of several of your father's books available for purchase, but not any of these.

Alan, how encouraging to read your post! Thank you for sharing that!!
It's always great to meet a fellow Bryan alum. I graduated in '78, so I was gone by the time you came. Yes, '85 would have been right around the time that he retired from teaching. Are you related to a McManus that my older sister, Donna, recalls from her class ('76 graduate)?
I hope to follow Rosie's suggestion and contact Logos about making these OP titles available electronically . . .
In His grace,

Rosie, thank you so much! Yes, I am going to follow through with your suggestion and contact them. I have wanted to get some of Dad's OP books back in circulation, either in print or electronically, but life kept getting in the way and I wasn't able to set aside time to work on it.
Yes, our family holds the copyright on the OP titles (Moody still has a number of titles still available).
I will come back and post an update after finding out what Logos can do!
Blessings to all of you on this thread for your persistence in attempting to locate this particular Bible study series . . . and how God is going to use it to expand the ministry of inductive Bible study into the future. All glory to God!

...And to all these, where is Cynthia? She hasn't even replied to this thread to acknowledge to the rest that she has received the great news about the Bible study guides she's been looking for...shame...shame...when she sees this thread she's probably assuming others are just writing about it and doesn't realize that someone is offering her what she's been looking for this past year. Come on Cynthia have some courtesy and let the rest of us know that you have seen the light at the end of the tunnel [:-P]

Actually, this is rather shocking, but with the absolute divine hand of God, I was the recipient of a 100% scholarship. Between teaching at Church, home schooling 12 high schoolers, and college, my time is spread so very thin until June.

Just a quick note to say thanks again to all of you on this thread for your encouragement . . . and Rosie, for getting in touch with Cynthia, who immediately emailed me yesterday. I'm happy to say that THE BOOK went out in today's mail and should be in your box MONDAY!
Thanks also to my older sister, Donna Carter, who discovered these posts and brought it to my attention . . .
As promised, I will give updates as I move forward with Logos!

Karen, you're quite welcome. There is at least one other McManus clan that I've come across in the Bryan alum family. Outside of my parents plus one sister that attended BC for two years around '80, we aren't related to any of the others. Although much of the alumni body feels like family as you probably can attest to as well.

Teens don't understand how one can be so exuberant over a simple book. Tell him/her it is similar to finding their favourite song which is no longer being distributed. (I can hear the response: "just google it.") I almost said record or Cd, but you might get an even more puzzled look. At least with the mention of the record. My son has seen them at his Grandmothers house.
Glad for you, keep doing your happy dance. Endorphin is good for the body.

Most of you have probably seen this on one of the other threads, but in case you haven't (& this is a proper closing for the reason behind Cynthia's 1st post here several years ago!) Thanks again, Rosie, for your help in steering me to the right place at Logos . . .
Just wanted to give you a heads up that Logos.com has just announced the pre-pub of 24 of Dad’s out-of-print titles! Here are the links:
JENSEN COLLECTION:
https://www.logos.com/product/55678/irving-l-jensen-collection
INDEPENDENT BIBLE STUDY:
https://www.logos.com/product/55689/independent-bible-study
(this one is a stand-alone title, but it's also included in the COLLECTION above)
My other update:
The SAMPLE ANALYTICAL CHARTS eBOOK turned into a massive project with 350+ charts received from 63 former students of Dad's! I will be releasing it under the name: Unlock the Bible Student in You sometime early January. PDF format. I plan to offer it as a bonus product, along with a webinar training that introduces the inductive method and shows the steps of creating the charts. Will price under $10.
Also, Cynthia Feenstra and I are partnering together in a ministry to encourage more independent Bible study (teaching the inductive method). Our website is in its early stages: InductiveCharts.com and FB page: Jensen Studies
AND JUST THINK . . . you all were a part of this process in God's design and sovereignty! Let's plan on a big celebration in heaven with Cynthia!May God be glorified in the days, weeks, months and years ahead through the continued ministry of Dad's books and Bible studies . . . and through the journey God is leading Cynthia and me.
In Christ,
karen

I saw your post about the Jensen Study Bible books. My wife just ordered 2 from the Moody Press web site today (04/27/2016) I have a number of the old books with a 1971 copyright. I think that they have updated the books, I just hope that they still have the charts.

Hi, Hugh -- Those at Moody Press are Dad's other Bible study series (which are still in print): Jensen's Bible Self-Study Guides, and yes, they still have the original charts in them!
The ones mentioned here in this thread are his books that have been out-of-print for a number of years -- Logos is releasing them in one entire collection, with one title as a single title: Independent Bible Study.
So glad to hear that these inductive studies are of help to you and your wife!

I emailed my contact last week and learned that they still need 145 orders before kicking it into production. I was asking about the single Independent Bible Study book, which has shown "under development" for several months (since December?).
But now I'm wondering if she was referring to the entire collection awaiting 145 more orders . . . ? I plan to contact her by phone today to clarify that.
Will update here when I learn more!

P.S. Meanwhile, our release (Cynthia and me) of the Intro to Inductive Bible Study training webinar, plus the bonus eBook of 350+ analytical charts is also taking longer than expected, but I'm hoping for a late May/early June release of that! More info at InductiveCharts.com
