Thank you, Logos for the L3 scripts

There has been a LOT of whining, complaining and grumbling on the forums. I'd just like to say thank you for the scripts that enable me to download the resources into L3 that I have in L4.

I'm determined to be patient as the L4 program continues to gain features and improvements. The potential is there. However, I am now excited to be able to use all those new resources i bought with Platinum in L3.

I'm determined to be patient as the L4 program continues to gain features and improvements. The potential is there. However, I am now excited to be able to use all those new resources i bought with Platinum in L3.

Patience really is a virtue and it comes with great rewards sometimes. I spent many hours manually updating resources from the ftp site . After I thought I had downloaded all but 5 of the new titles, the scripts were posted. When I ran it another 2.5GB was discovered, downloaded and installed. Everything was lightning fast and without error. I learned a lesson on this one: Sit back patiently and allow the professionals to do their job. They are fast, efficient and do it so much better if the kiddos don't get under foot.

That is not to say we should not inform Customer Support of bugs, service concerns, or issues we deem serious. But your post is a refreshing reminder of just how GOOD my experience with Logos 4 has been. Thanks for the attitude adjustment. [:$]

The scripts are contained in the Dec 4 Logos Blog, there is a calendar on the bottom right side on the blog page, just click on Dec 4 and scroll down.

Loading Your Books via Download

If you’re a Windows user, you’d rather not spend the money for the media-only disk or wait for it to arrive, and you have a fast internet connection, you can load your new books on Logos 3 by running a resource update script. Just click the link for your base package below, and Libronix Update will download all of the available resources from our server that are missing from your computer.

This will take you to the December 4th Logos blog. Read the whole article. Near the bottom it has several links for the different package levels. If you have a fast internet connection you should be able to download to your Logos Version 3 installation.

Thanks, I did it. It didn't get ALL of my L4 resources...but a good number of them. For example, I recently purchased Bock's "Jesus in Context" for L4, but it does not show up in L3. Do you know if they have not made all the L4 resources available yet for L3? Thanks, you guys, for your help. Mucho appreciated. [Y]

Explanation of different numbers of resources: My L4 library shows 2,167 resources. My L3 shows 1,544 resources. Quite a difference. Again any help will be appreciated as to what I need to do to pull ALL of my L4 resources into L3.

Stephen, The scripts we gave reference to on the Logos blog of Dec 4th only address the contents of the upgrade packages. Anything you purchased separately will have to be addressed separately to show up in your Logos 3 installation. For example; The Pre-Pub that shipped this week "A General View of the History of the English Bible" by B. F. Westcott was automatically updated by my Logos 4 computer. I had to manually upgrade my Version 3 laptop by signing into my Logos.com account and going to the order tab. Down at the bottom of the page it has a "unlock & download" buttons next to the resource titles. Click on these and follow the instructions.

Logos posted the scripts after I had completed manually downloading all my new resources to my Version 3 laptop. When I ran the script it found MANY more resources I had missed. I have not found a single title in the upgrade package that was not installed by the script. (Amazing but true.)

Since Logos already has the licenses for each user stored on their server, could they not make a single script for version 3.0G of their software that would update a user's Logos 3 installation to all of their unlocked v3/v4 resources - including new unlocks or even things unlocked after the script was built?

It would just need to fetch the user's unlocked catalog listing and grab whatever was not already on the local drive for version 3.

One of my pet peeves about version 3 was the fact that I always seemed to either not have an unlocked resource available after a re-install of the software or I'd have titles on my drive that were locked that I did not want or need to be there taking up space.

If Logos made a script like this, it would be possible to install v3.0g and just run the script to get all of your resources. Nice and clean and easy.

Well- all of your resources that Logos sells anyway. I have a few that I bought directly from other sources and some came in the back of printed books that I bought.

Is there any way to simply copy the resources from one version to another rather than to download them all? I live in a rural area and my network connection isn't fast. Most often I spent the extra $$ to purchase DVDs and CDs rather than download. Unfortunately, it looks like ordering media is not supported in L4. :-(

Call Logos on Monday if you can wait that long. L3 resources need to be replaced by L4 (reformatted) equivalents that can be indexed by L4.

They DO support DVDs, though it isn't advertised (AFIK).
