Biblical text does not pop up in notes

I am new in Logos 5 and writing this message from the Netherlands.

It seems that when I add a biblical text reference in 'notes' the text does not pop up (anymore).

It worked fine, but since yesterday it does not work anymore.

Any advice?

I am using Mac and PC

Welcome to the forums, Arnold.

You might not be aware that there are two types of notes: Selecton and Reference. They behave differently.

If you click and drag to highlight some biblical text, then right-click, you will see a dialog.

In the upper right pane you can see Selection and Reference. You want Reference, so your note will be attached to all versified resources. If your note is tied to the Selection, the note is attached to the highlighted text in that resource alone.

If this does not help you solve your problem, please post more steps so that others can duplicate the behavior you see.

Which popups are you talking about? Jack seems to be assuming you're missing the note icon in the Bible text. Is that what you meant? Or did you mean that you have the icon, but when you hover on it, you don't get the popup with the note text? Or that when you hover on a Bible reference in a note file, you don't get a popup with the Bible text?

EDIT: If the last: are you hovering on the 'automatic' Bible reference created with the note, or on a reference in the note that you have typed in yourself? Or does neither give a popup?

Does it behave the same on both Mac and PC?

My questions is pretty simple: why? Here's a screenshot from my Proverbs study. I highlighted Solomon's name and right clicked to add a note to my note file. The first time I did, neither Reference or Selection was chosen. Lemma was highlighted in the list (see top pic). I then re-right-clicked on the name and chose Reference, then added a note to my note file (second pic). I copied the text directly from the first note and pasted it into the new note.

The bible references in the first note do not give pop-ups, but in the second (where Reference was picked), they do (last pic).

Why wouldn't the same note not allow popups unless the Reference choice was selected? There may be a very good reason, but I can't think of it.

Hmmm. I created a note for a lemma and when I hovered my mouse over the note reference, I saw a popup of the original language text around the word I originally highlighted. This behavior is consistent for both Hebrew and Greek texts. If I highlight a word in an English-language Bible, the Lemma choice is not available.

Perhaps if you provided a more complete list of steps to create the behavior you describe, someone could provide a better answer.

I created a note for a lemma and when I hovered my mouse over the note reference, I saw a popup of the original language text around the word I originally highlighted.

Do you actually see exactly that? When I do it, I see a number of verses beginning with the word I had selected.

Here are my steps:

go to Genesis 38:1 in BHS and highlight the third Hebrew word.
Right-click to bring up the context dialog.
In the right pane, click Lemma, then click Add note to Genesis Notes.
In the note, type in some nonsense text and click Compact to shrink it to a list of scriptures.
When I hover the cursor over the scripture reference, I see Genesis 38, verses 1-7 in Hebrew.

What are your steps to see a different outcome?

Your original post says that you use both Windows and Mac. Unfortunately, the Mac engine is unable to automatically create the hyperlinks… but you can manually add them. Likewise, any links that are created (manually or automatically) on your PC will sync to the Mac.

OK, I think I understand now.

For either type of note (Selection or Reference), if you put a Bible reference into the note,

If the note is Compact, and you hover over the Bible reference, you will NOT see the Bible text.
If you expand the not by clicking on it, or if all notes are Full, if you hover over the Bible reference, you will see the Bible text in a popup.

I believe this behavior is the way it was designed to work.

I am not in Selection or Reference. I am directly creating a note. And it still does not work either in Compact or Full mode

I just found the abbreviations in Google. I am pretty sure that is the problem. I am used to another bible program.

But, as someone said above, links will only be created automatically on PC. On Mac they have to be done manually (or synced from the PC).
