Potential Bug: Notification to download Logos 5 Library to Win XP

I get a 1.71 GB update notification in Logos 4.6a SR-5 on Win XP compared to a 1.79 GB offer in 4.6b beta on Win 8. The difference in size (about 82 MB) implies XP may not be getting some updates so:-

  • can I be sure it will not include the Logos 5 installer?
  • will it include any of the new Logos 5 data sets?
  • will the resources be compatible with 4.6a given that they came with my Logos 5 upgrade?

OR

  • is this an issue with Logos 4 on XP when someone has upgraded to Logos 5?

    • The Logos 4 updater includes logic to not download updates that are marked as requiring a minimum OS version greater than the current OS version. All Logos 5 updates should be tagged with minimum-os-version="Windows Vista", so Logos 4 running on Windows XP should not download them.
    • The Logos 5 data sets require a minimum program version of 5.0 (or later) before they can be downloaded and installed. Logos 4.6a should not download any of the new data sets.
    • All "*.logos4" resources should be compatible with the latest version of Logos 4.x. The underlying "resource driver" code is shared between Logos 4 and 5, so the resource files should be usable on both platforms.

    OR

    • Despite our best intentions and testing, there could be a previously-unknown bug in Logos 4 that disables one or more of the checks I described above, and causes unusable updates to be downloaded. However, such a bug has never been encountered in our testing, nor reported on the forums. (There was one thread where it was claimed that this had happened, but it turned out to just be a crash in Logos 4.6: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/53656/419747.aspx#419747.)

As far as I can tell, the system is working exactly as designed: Logos 4.6a is offering to download and install the components of your Logos 5 upgrade that it will be able to use, and will not download the incompatible components.

Thanks Bradley, I appreciate the detailed response.
