I am posting this on the forum mainly because I have spent a
bit of time getting this working. So I am going to put this in stages, I am
also assuming that you want to create your own word lists
What you will need
1) To have the ability to export words to a word list in
Logos 5
2) To have downloaded a copy of Anki from http://ankisrs.net/anki2.html
STAGES
1) Create a new word list using the Documents > New Word
List option
2) Select the Hebrew & Greek words you want to learn (I
do this by right clicking on the words and then select the lemma part of the
word and then add this to your newly created word list.
3) Choose the option to PRINT/EXPORT the word list, and then
save as an XL spreadsheet (save it as an xml document not a csv)
OK YOU NEED TO GET THE SPREADSHEET INTO A FORM THAT ANKI
WILL ACCEPT
If you are just doing GREEK WORDS then you can save the file
as a .csv file
If you are doing HEBREW WORDS then you will have to use
ROUTE A or ROUTE B below
ROUTE A (Sourced from https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/ankisrs/UsTbn7Y5aGM)
You will
need
--Microsoft
Excel
--Microsoft
Notepad (found in “Start Menu” “All Programs” “Accessories”)
--And of
course Anki 2.x
Open the document and remove any unnecessary columns (I just
have the lemma and the gloss columns) - so you have 2 columns in total. Also remove the first row which has the
column titles so you only have the Hebrew & Greek words and the translation
columns)Make sure your fonts are in an acceptable format (for Hebrew I use EZRA SIL or SBL HEBREW).
How to
Get an Excel file to Import into Anki.
--When
you are ready to save your Excel file, go to and click on “Save As”
--Then
from the “Save as type” drop down menu, select “Unicode Text.” Name your
file and then save it.
(NOTE:
The file is not ready to import into Anki. Excel saves it as
UTF-16. The file needs to be in UTF-8 for it to work with Anki. So
the next step is to convert into UTF-8 using Notepad.)
--Open
Notepad.
--Go to
“Open” and at the bottom of the Window, change the “Encoding” to “Unicode” (or
“Unicode big endian”)
--Then
navigate to your saved Excel .txt file and open it.
--Then
just click “Save as” and change the Encoding to “UTF-8” Then save the
file. (If you don’t want it to overwrite the existing Unicode text file,
then be sure to change the name or location when saving).
ROUTE B
(THE ROUTE I USE)
You will
need LibreOffice Calc available from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
You only
need to install the Calc variant once you get to that stage
- 4) Open the document and remove any unnecessary columns (I
just have the lemma and the gloss columns) - so you have 2 columns in total. Also remove the first row which has the
column titles so you only have the Hebrew & Greek words and the translation
columns)Make sure your fonts are in an acceptable format (for Hebrew I use EZRA SIL or SBL HEBREW).
- Do File Save as and click "Save as" and then
save as Text Csv
- An options box pops up (click on Use Text Csv format)
- Another options box pops up and change the character set
to Unicode (UTF-8)
WHETHER YOU HAVE TAKEN ROUTE A OR B - YOU KNOW HAVE YOUR FILE
READY TO RUN
Having installed Anki - you can then create a new vocab and
then import your cards
- If you are importing Hebrew cards you need to make sure
that on the Import Options you change the type from BASIC to HEBREW
Your flash cards should NOW BE READY TO ROLL
3) If you want to access your flashcards online then create
an account on https://ankiweb.net/
FOR ANDROID & IPAD USERS APPS ARE AVAILABLE (FREE FOR
ANDRIOD USERS)
ANDROID USERS (Using ANKIDROID) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ichi2.anki&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
To get your Hebrew font to display correctly you will need
to take the following steps
Make sure you in the AnkiDroid program and go to Preferences
and click on 'Fix for Hebrew vowels'
It then explains that you need to download a font Tohu.ttf
and copy it manually to a folder on your phone.
It works great - but took me a long time to figure it out
If you get to the end of this post and have questions it may
take me a while to respond as I have a crazy couple of weeks coming up, but
wanted to document it more for me than anything else!!
