How do I restrict a search to a one specific text in my library?
Hi Scott! Welcome to the forums! [:)]
When you open a search, at the top, you are given the choice to select a single resource. Make sure you are doing a "basic" search (rather than Bible… unless that is what you are trying to do). Click on the "Entire Library" hyperlink. This will allow you to select a collection, all open resources, or a specific resource. If the resource isn't in the list, begin to type the name and it will appear. Below is a screen shot. If you still have questions, let us know.
OK ... Alabama ... you're far more expert than me. 'Exactly' how do you identify a single resource? In the menu, there's a bunch of resources, but certainly not how many are in my library. I'd thought maybe to use the abbreviation in the library but that doesn't appear to be the correct answer either.
EDIT: Ok ... looks like it operates like Libronix (the software that makes sense; you type in part of the title). I've only had L4/5 for 3 years now.

Thanks. But what if, say I want to do a search for a word in Justin's A Dialogue with Trypho? I don't seem to be able to pull up that one text using your instructions.

Type the word Dialogue in the Search box and the text should be suggested if it's in your Library (typing dialog should be sufficient).
I don't seem to be able to pull up that one text using your instructions.
That is a bit trickier… I assume you are asking about a CHAPTER in a RESOURCE. Justin's A Dialogue with Trypho is available as a chapter within the resource Ante-Nicene Fathers 1, but isn't its own resource. I don't think you can search just the chapter… If it's possible, someone else will have to chime in.
the most simple method is to locate the text in the library and open it. Then you may either use Ctrl-F to have the full-text search drop out of the menu bar in a top-right position (much like in a browser) or you right click a word in the text and use "search this resource" and it will open exactly the basic search dialog Alabama wrote about.
This works for any resource - if you want to search only a part of the resource, you may scroll the hits up and down (or left and right) to see where they are.
I think that is the best solution. I was starting to come up with some convoluted theory about using a special highlighter for the entire text and … never mind. [:D]
But what if, say I want to do a search for a word in Justin's A Dialogue with Trypho?
A search for word forms of investigate can be done in Dialogue with Trypho:
([field JustinMartyr, Dialogue with Trypho] investigate)
Note: started with a Morph Search, then looked at syntax conversion for Basic search and tried a couple ideas. Found a way to search a tagged field for specific content, which can be used in a specific resource, collection, or entire library.
Keep Smiling [:)]
A search for word forms of investigate can be done in Dialogue with Trypho: ([field JustinMartyr, Dialogue with Trypho] investigate)
Search for investigate can be simplified to:
([JustinMartyr] Investigate)
Caveat: still have a bit more to learn for restricting search to Dialogue with Trypho.
It doesn't restrict the search, although I don't know why it gives results, because there is no Search field called JustinMartyr nor Dialogue with Trypho.
Search for investigate can be simplified to: ([JustinMartyr] Investigate)
Just about anything in square brackets will work in this case.
