citations not working for me

I'm working on a paper and am trying to copy and paste into the newest version of Word for Mac. It copies the text but not the footnote at the bottom. I've also tried copying into Pages. Is this a known issue or am I missing something?

And yes, I have citing turned on in my preferences.

How large a piece of text?

I remember there being a minimum limit - around 50 characters - below which the footnote information is not copied
