Whispersync for Logos?

I use Logos quite a bit for just reading and I use all platforms, Android (Nexus 7, Galaxy S3), Apple (iPhone), as well as Mac and Windows versions ... one of my big frustrations is that "the last place read to" is not synchronized across the platforms. It seems to do ok between Mac and Windows but not to the mobile devices. I love the Kindle's whispersync that even informs you when you are not at the last place read to ... why can't Logos do the same across all platforms? I cannot imagine that's a very difficult technical challenge.

I'm left to adding a highlight (sort of a poor man's bookmark) in a different color so that when I pick up another device I can look for my highlight (which do seem to sync ok?) ... I remove the highlight ,read, then add the highlight where I've finished ...

Am I missing something? Or does the "last place read to" just not work across platforms? (I've also tried Vyrso ... no luck there either.)

Logos does sync the location info, but it works a little differently that you are expecting. The location info does sync, but resources that are left open/active in a panel stay in place. This is similar to how resources work in saved layouts... The resource stays in place.

When you open a resource cold, it should open to the last used location.

FWIW - I agree that Logos could use improvement in this area.

EDIT: This applies to iOS. I have no idea about android.

Thanks ... I was afraid of that. I suppose if you never downloaded books that would probably work ok .... but I download everything I'm reading so no way really to open a downloaded resource "cold" ...

Opening a book "cold" has nothing to do with whether it is downloaded or not. By "cold," I simply mean it wasn't left open in either of the two mobile panes. Try this:

Open a non versified resource you seldom (if ever) use on your desktop (L4/L5). Make sure it isn't one you have used recently, especially on your iOS device.
Turn to chapter 5 (or some other random spot).
Press the sync wheel in L4/L5.
Open the resource on mobile. It should open up to chapter 5.

I now have another issue. I have three books downloaded. When I switch to another book it reverts back a place that somehow seems to have been "saved" ... no matter what I do when I switch between books they always go back to these seemingly "fixed" spots ... very, very frustrating ... have no idea what I've done or how to fix it??? How do I get the mobile device to remember where I left off reading?? (I can move forward to the new spot on a desktop version, click the "sync" button but to no avail ...

Logos has soooooo much potential ... but these little nuances make it more frustrating than helpful at times ... I've been fussing with this for an hour ... and would have preferred to be studying / reading ...

Strange. What books? Are they versified? Do you have the books linked?

Even if I remove a book and re-download it ... it goes to the somehow "saved" spot ... all desktop version are syncing just fine ...

As I said before, the download status is irrelevant to where the book opens.

Your panels are apparently linked. Press and hold the semi-circle slider from between the two panels. Make sure "link" is switched off.

It certainly appears that is the case .... I've tried downloading a few other versified resources (other commentaries, etc.) and the behavior is the same ... interestingly, this seems to be a new behavior ... I've been using logos for a couple of years and have not see this before.

Here is the behavior as I now understand it:

When you open a commentary while having a BIBLE open to the same biblical book, the commentary will open the the passage from the bible.
Similarly, when you have a BIBLE in the second panel (visible or not), the commentary will open to the current passage (if applicable).
If you DONT have a BIBLE resource open in either panel, the commentary will open to the last synced location.
Unless the panels are linked, NON-BIBLE resources will not follow one another.

I was successful in opening commentaries to the last synced location when I follow these steps:

Close any open Bibles (in either panel) or make sure they are not turned to the subject passage of the commentary (i.e. turn bible to "Genesis" when studying "Matthew.")
If you were just using a Bible, open a non-biblical resource.
Opening a commentary will open to the last synced location rather than following the Biblical reference.

I can understand why this behavior would be both desirable and undesirable in various situations. With the ability to use the "Link" or "Sync" buttons, I think this behavior should be changed. I will send a note in to Logos. It might be good for you to create a new thread in the suggestions forum. Feel free to include a link to this thread.

Another suggestion Brad...

I know it will still be a hassle for you, but here is a suggestion: When the commentary changes locations, you can open up "history" and switch back to the previous location. In the reading view top menu, there is a "left pointing" arrow (upper left corner). Press and hold that button and the history menu will appear. You should find your previous location listed under the resource.

NOTE: If the menu isn't visible, swipe downward over the text.
