Did you know Art?

I went to some of his meetings when he was still living in Kansas City, and then when he'd come back for a visit.

I saw and heard him a couple times when he came to Dallas/Fort Worth after we moved here; the last time he seemed to be declining in health and alertness, or maybe he was just very tired. I videotaped his talk, but then erased it afterwards since it wasn't (IMO) very good. I wish I'd saved it, since he died not many years after that. And then the Ben Israel community had a fire that destroyed the master tapes (audio and I assume video as well) of many, many years worth of messages.

His story was one of the first I read that let me know that there were other Jews besides me who believed in Jesus, so I was glad to be able to see and hear him when I did. I really liked Ben Israel and Reality: The Hope of Glory.

Did you know Art?

Yeah, my favorite Katz book is probably Spirit of Truth. I heard him speak a couple times over the years. I always appreciated his zeal and his prophetic edge (without all the charismatic baggage). You just don't find many men with a spine like Katz. And you don't find many theologians that appreciate and actually incorporate the apocalypticism of the NT, except maybe J.C. Beker (of course, the whole neo-apocalyptic movement of Hal Lindsey, et al bears little resemblance of the NT apocalyptic). Katz spoke with some clarity in the midst of all the chaos of the 80s and 90s without jettisoning (or severely downplaying) the centrality of apocalyptic and the return of Jesus in the NT.
