Hello,
Are there any provisions for DDE or OLE type inter-process communication in Logos 4?
Thank you,
Mike

Hmm. Don't remember DDE/OLE since Logos 2.
There is some talk about opening up the API to handle smart tags in MS Word, as well as macro access to L4 resources. But at best it will be months out. But I have no idea if this will work through DDE, OLE, or some other method.

In BibleWorks 8 I can use the External Links Manager to call up L4, so there must be some sort inter-process communication in Logos 4. This example opens the current verse in BibleWorks 8 in Logos 4 KJV:
libronixdls:keylink|ref=[en]bible:<Book>%20<Chapter>%3A<Verse>|res=LLS:KJV
This is working NOW, so there has to be something - perhaps an old holdover - in Logos 4.
I remember there being a page regarding this on the logos.com web site, but it looks to have been replaced by the reftagger (?) I was just wondering if there was any Logos 4 documentation on it. There is nothing in the help file.
Thanks,
Here's a link to the Logos blog that explains this feature in Logos 3.

At least ~some~ of this works in Logos 4 as I am using it right now without any problems.
I was just looking for some comprehensive documentation on what is available in Logos 4 regarding this feature.
Genesis 21:1
Clicking on the above link should open Genesis 21:1 in your Logos installation.

Yes this opens Libronix (Logos3). I'm not aware of this functionality using DDE calls or OLE. It may, or there may be another process entirely.
Logos2 had some documented DDE commands that could be accessed directly from a macro (I did this in WordPerfect). Macros for Libronix had to use the Copy Bible Verse (CBV) module to work, and while there were protocols listed for this, there weren't any direct DDE calls, as far as I know (but I'm not a programmer, so I probably wouldn't).
So far the API for Logos4 has not been developed, and from the last I've heard is still being discussed. I'm guessing we'll get something, but there's no way of know that for sure, or what it's limits would be.
I'm not sure how this is implemented, but it is definitely built in to Logos 4.
When you have a Logos 4 resource open you'll generally see an icon of the cover of the resource in the upper left corner. I'm not sure what label Logos has attached to this, but if you click on the little down arrow next to this, you'll get a drop-down menu and on this menu it has the facilities to copy this location to a URL. Try this and it will copy a libronixdls protocol link to your clipboard.
If you take what is copied to your clipboard and drop it into a HTML <a> (anchor) tag, then you can add Logos resource links to the forums that will open in Logos 3 OR Logos 4.
On my desktop they open in Logos 3. I have 3 & 4 installed there. On my laptop they open in Logos 4. I do not have Logos 3 installed there.
I'm currently searching for the registry key to try to make my desktop open to Logos 4 instead of Logos 3 when I run into one of these links. I knd of think that I'm going to hit the wall on finding this registry key but so far I have been searching for the string: URL:Libronix Digital Library System Execute Protocol in the registry on the desktop machine to see if I can transfer it from Logos 3 to Logos 4.
It would be nice if this feature was documented better. I like this feature. It is useful to me.

This is really COOL. You can even have a report generated. Yes i would like to see this in L4!
Hi Steve,
It IS in L4 but it is not documented very well if at all. I think it's very useful.
If you're using L3 and L4 on the same computer this feature will only interact with one of them at a time and you need to edit your registry to switch from one to the other.
I saw that thread too.
A VB app could be built to change back and forth that registry entry.
The thread that explains the registry settings for getting libronixdls links to open in Logos 4 is here http://community.logos.com/forums/t/6454.aspx
There's no need to us VBScript to toggle. Just set it to how you want then export the appropriate key. You'll get a .reg file which you can double-click on to change settings in the future.
It doesn't use DDE/OLE.
I should add that to generate links to resources in Logos 4, you just need to follow these instructions. Unfortunately this doesn't work for passage guides etc. at the moment.
However the links in the blog post above do work for passage/exegetical guides, so you should be able to manually copy links. None of the links to other reports from that blogpost work for me, though.
