Is there a way to search your library for charts in L4. I'm specifically looking for a chart that groups the psalms by topic.
Hi Adam ... I'm curious to see the answer ... would be very useful.
I tested 'tag:chart' but that mainly brings up graphs; not charts.
But it did find climate info on palestine and drought likelihood. Also an interesting factoid from Anchor:
'Thus, while Jerusalem and London have about the same average annual rainfall (22 inches), London has over 300 rain days while Jerusalem has only 50 (Orni and Efrat 1973: 147)'
Ok ... back to Psalms.
Hi Adam, The Nelson Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts doesn't have it in a chart, but in a nice outline: logosres:bkmapcht;art=2.11.2.5;off=5270
However, the MacArthur Study Bible has a nice usable chart: logosres:macartsb;art=19tbl1.use;off=2
Adam I just realized I didn't exactly answer your question. There is no straightforward way that I know of to search for a chart. The way I found the two in my earlier post was to formulate in my mind how what I am looking for would appear in my books. So I figured a title for such a chart would be "Types of Psalms", and I limited my search to Large Text/Heading Text. Hope this helps.
Peace, Adam! *smile*
Wow! You sure have me thinking! I have quite a few resources on The Psalms and just love them! Would be "sort of" nice if we were able to "group" them easily! I can see the "handiness" of a chart! Good idea! Except for the MacArthur Study Bible which another poster mentioned, I couldn't find a chart either.
However, I came across this book in my library (Psalms by Day), and I am grateful to you for posting since I will be reading this book in the next couple of days!
In this highly competent analysis of the Psalms, John Day begins by introducing the most common types of Psalms. He then examines Psalms of lament, praise and thanksgiving, confidence, wisdom and torah Psalms, historical Psalms, entrance Liturgies, pilgrimage Psalms, the Autumn Festival, and the Royal Psalms. Day then discusses the composition of the Psalter, and finishes up by scrutinizing the theology of the Psalms and the history of their interpretation by the Jews and in the Christian church.
Save more when you purchase this volume as part of the Sheffield/T & T Clark Bible Guides Collection (44 Vols.)!
John Day is Fellow and Tutor of Lady Margaret Hall and Reader in Biblical Studies at the University of Oxford.
Also, Adam, his table of contents seems quite interesting to me! *smile*
Hi Adam
"#image ANDEQUALS tag:table" seems to give you want in L5 - not sure if it works in L4

The Holman Bible Handbook has a nice listing of all the types of psalms and then lists every single psalm and what type it is:
Hymns. In this type of psalm, the wholecongregation praises God for His works or attributes (Ps 105). Sixsubcategories of hymn are: victory songs, which praise God for His victories over the nations (Ps 68); processional hymns, sung as theworshipers moved into the temple area (Ps 24); Zion songs, which praise God and specifically refer to His presencein Zion (Ps 48); songs of the Lord'sreign, which begin with the words, "The Lord reigns" (Ps 99); antiphonal hymns, chanted by either thepriests or choir with the congregation responding antiphonally (Ps 136); hallelujah hymns, which begin or endwith "Praise the Lord!" (Hebrew halleluYah; Ps 146).
Community complaints. In thesepsalms the whole nation voiced its complaints over problems it was facing, suchas defeat in battle, famine, or drought (Ps 74). A subcategory of this is the national imprecation, in which thepeople cursed their oppressors (Ps 83).
Individual complaints. These psalmsare like the community complaint except that they were prayers given by oneperson instead of the whole nation. The reason for the prayers might be thatthe individual was sick, hounded by enemies, or in need of confessing personalsin (Ps 13). This type of psalm may include substantial imprecation or curses against the psalmist's personal enemies (Ps5). A subcategory is the penitentialpsalm, in which the speaker is dominated by the sense of his guilt (Ps 51).
Individual songs of thanksgiving. In thesepsalms an individual praises God for some saving act. Usually it alludes to atime that the individual was sick or in some other kind of trouble (Ps 116).
Royal psalms. These psalms deal with the kingand the royal house. Subcategories include: weddingsongs, sung at the marriage of the king (Ps 45); coronation songs (Ps 72); prayersfor victory, chanted when the king went to war (Ps 20); votive psalms, perhaps sung by the kingat his coronation as a vow to be faithful and upright (Ps 101).
Torah psalms. These psalms give moral orreligious instruction (Pss 1; 127). Subcategories include: testimony songs, in which the psalmist used his personal experienceof God's salvation to encourage the hearer (Ps 32); wisdom songs, in which the psalmist instructed the hearer more inpractical wisdom similar to that in Proverbs than in the law (Ps 49).
Oracle psalms. These psalms report a decree ofGod (Ps 82). The content of the oracle is often divine judgment, and the psalmconcludes with a prayer for God to carry out His decree. But see also Psalm 87,an oracle of salvation for the Gentiles.
Blessing psalms. In thesepsalms a priest pronounced a blessing upon the hearer(s) (Ps 128).
Taunt songs. These psalms reproach thegodless for their vile behavior and promise that their doom is near (Ps 52).
Songs of trust. In these psalms the psalmistmay face difficulty but remains assured of God's help and proclaims his faithand trust (Ps 11).
And so on...
