Final Destiny: The Future Reign of the Servant Kings, Jody Dillow

I was happy to see this book's predecessor make it onto the pre pub list (Reign of the Servant Kings: A Study of Eternal Security and the Final Significance of Man). It is a great book. However, the new version is a significant upgrade and I am not sure people are going to want to spend money for the older version. Why not just release the newer edition?

Perhaps br. Dillow (a Logos user) is willing to share his book in docx format to those who have bought the book. I have bought a PDF version and made a very rough docx version for my personal use in Logos5. This way I can lookup verses very fast.

Perhaps I can help you and others understand why writers who often work YEARS on books of this magnitude don't just give them away to those of the entitled generations. As a former business manager and CEO of two publishing companies, an owner of the Logos Software for ten years or so, author of several Logos books, and also a publisher of some similarly limited-market textbooks, I believe I can see this issue from all sides. I have never met Jody, or spent any time visiting with him, except by e-mail--we are too busy "making money" to waste time on that personal joy this side of eternity.

Jody's first book required him to research, exegete, write, re-write, have edited, correct, and re-write several more times over many years. There is nothing wrong with that first book as it has answered well the apostasy of John MacArthur's disreputable treatise, The (sic other) Gospel According to Jesus, on his salvation-by-works-on-the-installment plan. Unlike the reformulated and regurgitated "junk" that passes for Christian Best Sellers today; Christian writers, especially those who write truly ground-breaking work dependant on ardent research, don't make a living from their labor. I have a copy of the original printed version of this edition that is so marked up with comments; it is almost coming apart at the seams. I just ordered the pre-pub of it so it would be integrated with the Logos’ invaluable software searches. I am also going to get the PDF version of the new book for my own reading and marking it all up again. I will be happy to pay for the eventual upgrade of that version on Logos when it is released. I guess you might call me a sucker, but I believe I have a responsibility to support ministries like Jody's. There are so few worth supporting, in my opinion.

This honest author, not satisfied with the extent of his coverage on his own subject, spent another large block of time to expand his research, exegete more verses, write, re-write, have edited, correct, and re-write several more times over the past TEN years. Now that he has voluntarily outdated his first work and agreeably made a more desirous one, you can certainly purchase it at the new-release price. This will help support his past labor before he releases it to Logos several years from now. He will then receive a fraction of the original print book income as a Logos stand-alone product and an even smaller fraction of that amount once Logos bundles it with an plethora of books you would probably not buy.

I am also pained to have to spend so much of my limited income on new Logos products and think they ought to sell at a Kindle-like discount as an electronic book, not at the equal to retail printed products. But, I also realize Logos needs to be profitable to continue paying for their ongoing research and the nasty old marketing circle.

Thanks for your insight. I agree with the merit of the book and understand why it makes sense from a publishing perspective. I too have pre ordered the older version despite being outdated because I believe it to be worthy of my support. However, I would have been willing to pay a premium for the newer edition. Oh well. Just don't take too long LOGOS!
