A Guide to Batch Hiding Resources

For those who downloaded the Perseus library, you more then likely are faced with the problem of having hundreds of resources in language that you cannot read. I looked for some guides on how to mass hide resources, but everyone seemed to suggest dragging the resource one by one into the hidden resource window of the program settings.

Here is a much faster way of mass hiding resources. Note that I am an example of how to mass hide by language (Latin), but I am sure you can easily apply the method for other needs.

1) Right Click on the Library tab and click "Open in a Floating Window"

2) Right click on the sorting columns (i.e. Title, Author, etc.) and choose a convenient filter. For instance, in my case I chose Language.

3) Sort your library using the columns

4) Select multiple resources using the Ctrl + Left Click or Shift + Left Click (For instance, I sorted by Language > Latin and Shift + Click to select all of the texts)

5) On windows, Ctrl + Rick click brings up the option "Hide Resources," which will remove them from your library and hard drive, although they can be restored later.

I hope this helps somebody.

  • Thanks Ian. Writing this to keep it at the top of the forum. I am sure you have made many people very happy.

If you know how to create rules for a collection, then type it in the library window and follow the directions by Ian, and get them out of your library.

That's because the right-click method wasn't added until after those guides were written. The best place to look for guidance is generally the Wiki. Hiding Books includes the commands for both Mac and PC.

Note that while you can now hide multiple books at the same time, unhiding them again is still one by one. So don't hide loads of books you will need later on.

Also note that both hiding and unhiding requires a restart to take effect.

I know this is an old thread, but thank you! I was trying to look through my library last night on my tablet, and it was so frustrating having the whole Perseus Collection - best I can tell, this does now sync to my mobile devices as well!

Hmmm... Selecting multiple resources is no problem, but Ctrl+Right-click only brings up the "Hide this resource" option...single not multiple. Perhaps something has changed over the last year?

Update to my last post -- Not sure what happened but I closed then re-opened the library window and it worked fine. Thanks for the original post.

the grammar has changed to plural Resources, at least in the 5.2b beta. But singular works just the same!

'Hide these resources' would never come up when multiple were selected (MacOS Sierra) until I held 'Option" + Secondary click. Then it worked.
