New Testament Introduction - Guthrie or Carson & Moo?

Guthrie, Donald. New Testament Introduction. 4th rev. ed. The Master Reference Collection. Downers Grove, IL: Inter-Varsity Press, 1996.

Carson, D. A. and Douglas J. Moo. An Introduction to the New Testament. Second Edition. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2005.

I have to choose between reading these two books and was wondering if anyone has read either or both of these? Both seem like great books.

I'd be hard pressed to say one was superior to the other. They are different, and often in a complementary way, and reading both would be valuable. I have not read either of them through, but used them both in starting out studies of NT books.

That said, I lean toward Carson and Moo. One big reason is that they are more recent. For example they have a section on Paul because of the need to address views about him that have become prominent since Guthrie's writing. I also like the sections they include on Theme and Contribution as well as (Book name) in Recent Study.
