Hebrew font for Android workaround?
I have followed the discussion about the font problem with Hebrew (and to a lesser degree, Greek) in the Android App, a problem which I consider a major nuisance. I have purchased my tablet with the intention to read both in Greek and Hebrew on it. I can with the former but the latter is just too messed up.
Now I know what the answer has been: it's fixed in Jelly Bean. The problem of course, is that for people like me, that's no help at all. Many manufacturers do not bother to release OS upgrades for models that have already been released. They simply feature the new OS on new models unless the upgrade is necessary to fix issues on a current model.
This is the case with my tablet: the manufacturer is not interested in making an upgrade available apparently. Moreover, my search for any custom rom based on Jelly Bean has failed to produce results. I myself do not have the expertise to build a custom rom of my own.
I read that in the past, before Android supported Hebrew glyphs, there was a workaround with HebDroid, a font that was to be manually installed. My question for anyone (user or staff) is whether you know of any workaround (beside upgrading to Jelly Bean) to address the pointing display problem.
Thanks in advance.

I have yet to hear anything from anybody. Here is one avenue I am exploring: does anyone know whether installing the 4.2 new fonts on an older version of Android (4.0.3) might help the situation? Is the font themselves that have been improved or is it rendering? Can this optimization be ported to previous Android versions?

Hi Francis,
There is no workaround that I am aware of. As far as I understand, the Hebrew fonts are not new on 4.2 - it's just that kerning and positioning have been improved in 4.2. For more information see http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html .
