So...If I understand from reading about all the problems...you need BOTH L3 and L4?

When I saw the ads for L4, I understood it was an upgrade. I never read anywhere where it would not print, L3 resources won't always work or be auto available in L4, that you'd lose all the menu controls in L3 (Where is my Account Summary page?). How do you find out if all your purchased books in L3 are in L4?

I mean, sure it does neat stuff, but why would I "upgrade" to find out I have to keep my old version at the same time because the NEW version doesn't do the same things?

I'm very disappointed. Sad

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but one reason might be to get a lot of good books at a super low cost.

I won't try to defend Logos on this. You certainly aren't the first person to complain. Bob Pritchett has done his best to explain the Logos side of the story. There is some info on the Logos web site that explains some of the features missing, etc., but these are not prominently placed.

I think if you came to L4 (as many apparently have) believing it was going to take over every function of L3 right away, you have come to the right conclusion. It doesn't seem like an upgrade to lose features.

If you come to L4 as an upgrade in concept and potential which still has many features yet to be added (at no cost to any of us who upgraded), then you will be able to take the good with the bad a little better.

L4 is not yet all that it is meant to be. You could argue, as others have, that Logos should have waited to release it. You can always ask for a refund if you are really upset. Or you can do what many many of us have done and enjoy the features of L4 while doing some of our work in L3 until all the features are in place in L4. I've found there is enough that works and works well in L4 to make it my main version. I do occasionally revert to L3, but L4 does about 80% of what I need most weeks, so that's what is usually open on my desktop. I also have some new resources for not a lot of money and some features I really like.

I hope you hang in and learn what L4 can do and how to do it. L4 does not have the user control nor some of the reports that L3 had. That takes some getting used to. But L4 is a powerful program in its own right.

As to your resources, you can get a resource count from the Library in L4 which should give you more resources than in L3 (unless you chose the free upgrade). You can compare your account summary in L3 with the Library listing in L4. You just have to do one of those on screen.

As a beta tester, my initial reaction was like yours... but awhile into the release, my attitude is changing... I love working in L4 to get my work done... it almost feels like playing.... sometimes I do go back to L3 to get something done. That now feels like "have to..." But to the extent I'm willing to change the way I work (being that flexible IS painful, at times), I'm finding that L4 actually does better than doing "the same things." It already does some things better, & I can see the potential that it has for doing all the things I do better.

I'm a solo pastor in a small church (translation, I have a lot on my plate... little time to just PLAY with software; it has to be productive while I'm playing.)

Mark, I commend you for your attitude in your reply. Others would do well to follow your example. When a person has frustrations and problems with a product, that they have purchased, the last thing they need is a reply that essentialy tells them their hunch was right and they made a mistake in buying the product.

I beleive the central issue is that many (myself included) thought the L4 would be a better product for them than L3 was (words like "reimagined" come to mind) and when they learned that (for them) it may not be as they thought, well, the frustration and problems began. Hopefully, everyone will be able to recieve the asistance they need to make L4 work for them as time goes by.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, perhaps unintentionally. "Reimagined" is not just marketing spin, it accurately describes what has happened and predicts all of the problems L3 users have had... If L4 just did everything the same way L3 did so there were no hiccups for upgrading users that would hardly be reimagined. But if every feature, task and tool has been dissected, evaluated, rethought and rewritten from the ground up that truly is reimagined - it just results in difficulties for those who are used to the old way which is exactly what's you expect...

Hopefully, everyone will be able to recieve the asistance they need to make L4 work for them as time goes by.

Experience thus far from the beta and beyond gives me hope that this is happening [:)]
