Notes and High lighting for iPad and iPhone
Is there the option to make notes and highlight on these two devices without update the cloud until you close the program. Unless I am set up wrong, I can do everything but these to things with acceptable speed. But if I attempt to highlight or make notes it will slow down the system to OVER A MINUTE BEFORE IT GIVES BE BACK CONTROL OR WORSE WILL LOCK LOGOS UP. Also, I wouldn't even try this if I wasn't on a high speed wifi when it happens.
I believe it is because it is update with the cloud. But why can't I control when that happens? When I leave the program or say every 5 minutes or when I choose to update?
Forgive the post if this has been addressed previously.

Joe - I think that you will find that the issue isn't "the cloud," but rather is the size of your note files. If you will humor me:
- Find a non versified resource you have NEVER highlighted in or taken any notes.
- Create a new note file (i.e. "delete me")
- Add highlights to your resource, saved in the "delete me" note file.
You should find that the note saves almost immediately, and you can move on to something else.

Sometimes it is the size of the note file, sometimes the number of notes in (one or more note files) associated with a given resource that slows things down. For example, I have about 30 note files associated with my NASB and even when opening a NEW note file it will take 20-25 seconds to update the FIRST note in that file. If I use ANY of the note files against another resource, the update is nearly instantaneous, no matter how many notes are in the file.

Thanks for your responses. I get how a large file might take more time but that begs the question how big is big and how does one breakdown the notes they have taken in their bible study for years?
On my iPad 2, going back and attempting to highlight or add a note while in my Bible - the iPad locks up and times out.
Also, I tried to add a highlight in another book with no notes and it still locks up.
So obviously my problem is something else. Any suggestions?

But did you use a brand new note file with NO other notes present?

Logos has some work to do... I am not a programmer and dont know how serious the issue is. I can tell you that things have improved from earlier builds... but there is still much work to be done.
Personally, I use resource specific note files most of the time... I create a note file for every resource I use. This is a hassle, but I don't have the issue that you do... except for my devotional bible. (At the beginning of the year, I deleted the associated note file and found immediate relief).

Yes, I used a book that had no highlights or notes.
Do I need to delete Logos off my iPad and reload?

You are misunderstanding me. I understand that the BOOK has no notes or highlights. I also want you to create a new note FILE with no notes or highlights. Once you have done that, you will add a note to the new note FILE.
Scroll to the "documents" panel on your iPad. At the top right is a "plus" symbol - press it. Press "Note Document" to create a new note file.

No.

Scroll to the "documents" panel on your iPad. At the top right is a "plus" symbol - press it. Press "Note Document" to create a new note file.
And, just in case, when you go to add a highlight or note to your book which so far has no notes / highlights in it, make sure you pick the newly-created Note file at the bottom of the highlight / note screen so that we're sure the new highlight / note is the first one created in this new Note file.

Thanks for your help on this. When I do what alabama suggested the iPad locks up. When I open up Logos after it shuts itself down, it shuts itself down a second time and then I open it up again and attempt to open a note and I get the "Loading" and little when and would continue if I didn't shut it down.

Logos may need to take a look at your account & logs. Hopefully someone will chime in soon...
In the meantime: you can try to create the new note file on your desktop. Also, if you have the time and aren't worried about losing your downloaded resources, you can try to do a reinstall. [This is sometimes the best fix… but I haven't heard of it fixing "slow" notes… unless perhaps something is corrupted in your install].

Thanks for everyone taking the time to respond, the forum helps a great deal. I talked with Logos Support and they said I had to delete Logos and start again. It may have occurred during the last update when I went on to something else and then didn't check to see if Logos had finished updating.
It is working now. Thanks again!
