LSJ with or without the 1996 supplement?

Is getting the 1940 (LSJ) without the 1996 supplement a good idea if I save a few $?

I will be studying classical Gk in a secular uni, but I haven't yet decided how much exactly. So that will not be Biblical text studies.

Later on, some years from now I'll study Biblical Gk. I've heard that LSJ is good for Lk and Acts. I'm not that interested in Acts. I'm sure it's the best for Sirach too?

I have An Intermediate Greek-English Lexicon, Liddell & Scott, and I guess it's not enough in the long run.

I'm not interested in upgrading to a base-package that has LSJ. LSJ is quite expensive so it's difficult to prioritize it both now and later on - that's why I'm looking at the cheapest option to get it but wondering if getting it without the 1996 supplement is a good idea?

Unix if $$$ are a problem, keep your cash, enrol in uni and then get an academic account which will give you a % off most items.

I still really want the answer to my question so that I know which option I'll choose.

I know my future finances. I won't have more money at any point. Postponing the purchase until I start in uni is not that clever as that makes it more difficult to study on my own in advance. The uni studies will be hard enough so that it's good to be prepared. I have a lot of Gk tools and some self-tuition books already. Just the best lexicons missing. (I'm not going to buy BDAG, I will wait until the next Edition of that comes (in 2021 if the Editions come with the same frequency as they historically have). There won't be more Editions of LSJ.)

Is there really an academic discount for part-time studies in a secular uni, it's not even Biblical Gk?

If I were you, I would use the Perseus version of the 1940 edition that is free on the web for now. If/when you need more, you will know. But it will let you prepare for Uni and be ahead of most of your classmates.

It is not uncommon for professors to require a particular dictionary ... or at least strongly advise it. I'd at least go to the bookstore of the university and check what is in the required texts section.

Well, regarding the classical Gk in uni, admission to the class does require a grade from mid-level Swedish high-school English (I'm working on that), but I'm unsure as to how much of the class is in English.

Btw, does Perseus work in Libronix?:

It's hard to imagine not using the Logos LSJ with Perseus.

Perseus definitely does NOT work in Libronix! It WILL NOT work in Libronix...
