Jonathan, I'm not sure what you're referring to by "Bible Search bar" or "search box" since you also mentioned "user of my web site." Thomas gave a good answer if you're talking about using a link on your website to bring the user to some Bible text. But if are you talking about the command bar at the top of Logos, where you can type in a Bible reference to jump to that text, then perhaps this is more along the lines of what you were looking for.

When you type a Bible reference into the command bar, Logos opens your preferred Bible version, which you can select in the home page. Click the house icon to go to your home page:

Then choose your preferred Bible here:

But if you want to go to a verse in a specific version other than what you've set as your preferred Bible, you can type "in <version>" after the reference in the command bar, for example like this:

Now that I've played with it more, I see what you mean: the blog embedable search box on the bible.logos.com website. I agree, there should be a way to choose your version. I'm sure there is a way to do so by modifying the embed code but I can't see it just yet.

Yes, you're right. It ought to allow you to choose what version to jump to, but it doesn't have that documented, if it has the feature at all. Looking over the Java script (I don't know JS very well but enough to read it), it looks like they don't even use the version parameter, so you'll end up going to whatever last version the person used. And if they'd never been to the site (which I'm guessing would be the case for most visitors to your website), then I suppose it defaults to the first of the selection of five modern translations that they have prioritized there. I don't think it would ever randomly pop a user into an antiquated Bible version (though those do appear in the drop-down list if they wanted to select one of them).

Incidentally, I think it's silly for them to even list all those obscure antiquated versions -- KJV sure, but not 1890 Darby and 1881 Westcott-Hort Greek New Testament! This is supposed to be a user-friendly thing for random web users, not a scholars' playground. Real Bible scholars will already have Logos on their system and won't need a website to look stuff up in obscure versions.

That doesn't work for me on your site. I set the version in the Reftagger box right above the Bible Search Bar, click Save, and then do a search for something. It still brings up bible.logos.com in a random version. Furthermore, if I hover over a verse reference on your website, the Bible text that pops up comes up in a different version for each new reference I hover over, and it seems to be random.

Oops, that is also on my site and I just assumed (falsely) that the translation affected both. One does have to see it in the translation of its choice before you can change the version.

They do read these posts, so I'm not sure why no response yet. It could be that they are trying to figure out the right way to implement it but don't want to respond until they at least have a plan. Well, that's on the wishful thinking side.

You could force it to a specific version by adding an input to the form in the html snippet. This could be placed just inside the opening form tag.

It would be nice if it respected either your reftagger setting, or the setting chosen in the control panel. I'll look into it.

Yes, It needs to respect the reftagger setting. It doesn't make sense to the end user that they set the version in a box labeled Logos and it doesn't effect the other box labeled Logos - it only effects tags not labeled Logos.
