Impressions from L4

I am trying this week to use L4 in serious way for work. Here are some impressions on using it fwiw.

Note that while I am by nature the person in the paper signed "disgruntled in Ireland", some of this is actually positive

L4 - sugar and spice

My o my but print looks good in L4

Interlinear "window" very helpful

Passage guide customising - very good

Can put buttons on toolbar

Speed is ok on my comp. Wait for long and complex searches, but no noticeable wait for basic stuff.

"Rate this commentary on passage" in passage guide - v cool

Notes text formatting - great... Can you change the default text?

New tab/parallel resources - I like this, takes a little while to populate though.

Command/search bar good and impressive results.. Though I don't enjoy remembering and typing command style things - rather click a button

Music Media and Maps - lots of improvements

Clippings as a sermons and talks ahead planning tool - nice.

Visual filters - I like link to open panels lots - open the right panels and everything lights up!

L4 - worms and snails

Grey n white - e.g. there are stars on passage guide against commentaries (mark this article esp. helpful) on my screen did not even see them at first. Grey on grey for window titles, and tiny little + signs; is there a way to personalise the "colour" scheme?

I have got the notes skip out to "view only" bug - its like a game... Which key will make it happen this time?

Buttons added to toolbar are green and similar - not distinctive enough

The printing thing again...

When wishing to add a note from right-click, there is no option to create a new note

Handouts - oh all the wrong stuff already added...

Music - more n more please

Trying to use clippings as verse lists - not so much.

L4 - puppy dogs tails?

Add Name and details to a passage guide... And notes for each section of the passage guide...Ooo what's that for?

Yet with notes you can add title, but no details panel - can we have title and details for notes?

Handouts - sorry but I don't get this one. Mic publisher, Word, etc need not fear the competition, so why not simply go for really cool export to dedicated programs instead Nice selectable list of resources to use and "export to" button?

Anyway, that's it for now.

I agree with everything you mentioned; both good and bad.

I had no idea that Logos was "washed out" looking...until I saw it on my wife's Laptop that has less fine control over gamma than my own machine....this really needs to be user "set-able" at least a few options

Button #1: "darker/more contrast"

Button #2: "still darker and still more contrast"

This would be good to give those who have less video control a fighting chance...

Or Logos could just fix the colour scheme so that a kludge like fiddling with gamma is not necessary.

Yes....set the "default" more toward the "middle of the gamma spectrum" and that way most people will not have an issue....

I have my machine set up so Logos looks good...and so that means that all other things are "a bit dark" so I'm constantly fiddling with it....

Please Logos..."contrast parity" between V4 and other windows apps....

I have changed some settings re: screen. It makes a little difference to L4, but also affects everything else of course.

Ok made a handout on Luke 1 46-55. The whole process is v awkward. Have lots of stuff listed I had to delete first of all, then search for the things I might actually want to add, could not really arrange the items in the way I wanted, had to accept the program's way of doing it. Wanted to add my own items already typed into notes and clippings, but could not do this easily either. Could the handout app not search and include my notes as items to be incuded on a handout if they are related to the verses?

Finally printed out the handout which came out on A4 in A5/fold form, which is good, but the map is so scaled down it cannot be read, and this applies also to other items except the bible text itself.

Some nice resources here to put in, but still think export to publisher or word would be better.

I can confirm everything you've said Edward. Keep in mind that handouts is not intended to be a replacement for publisher or a word processor. It's intent is to be a quick and simple method to throw some data on a page. Ok, it does that.

I believe there are some workflow issues to rectify and I've highlighted some of them in a post on handouts which is linked in my sig.

I am very hesitant about all the links which are being created that are reliant upon Microsoft products. While I ave Office Professional, many do not have any of these programs and use for various reasons freeware alternatives. The question has also been raised whether the Mac version will supprt the preferrd Mac prorams over againt the Microsoft one.

Wrt notes, I'd rather Evernote support - it's free, it has an open API and Olivetree using it very beneficially for their nte takingon the iPhone/iPo touch.

Once printing is completed, then this will be available. Similarly, once printing is available, PDF versions of text can be created - I even read that a "printer" would become available (from a third party) for creating Kindle compatible works.

I have the OliveTree product on my Ipod Touch. Ever Note is great on that. I've never tried it on the PC. Of course, it's no big deal. We can copy and paste to any product now. I just like the automation provided for Word and would like that option for OneNote. Or maybe we could select the target and have that automation for whatever target we select. Hmm!

The PDF option for Kindle would be great. I also have a Kindle DX and would love to be able to port some reading over to it. It's much easier on my eyes that the PC screen. Anyway, it was just a suggestion. I love L4 either way.
