Crashing upon fresh install

Logos would not load after fresh install after reinstallation of Win7. Splash screen shows for a long time and then Windows presents a fail/program shutdown dialogue to close program and send info to windows. Logs attached.

Hi Kenneth
The logs are reporting
"Error in Read - disk I/O error"
Do you have any tools to check that your disk is ok?

I went to OS and properties/tools/check disk and then restarted. Tried to get L5 to start again. Did a ctrl blank layout start and signed in. Got as far as synchronizing documents and settings. Little wheel spun for quite awhile before crash and windows reported the program shut down. Log files attached.

Error reports the read error is on the server side I think.

And everything was OK with the drive? If so, I would perhaps download the engine again and reinstall it.

Hi Kenneth,
As Graham says, the error being reported is disk I/O. It's not clear what's causing the problem. Possible issues include:
- Disk corruption
- File permission problems
- File corruption
If you've freshly installed Logos via download that would probably rule out file permission issues. But if you've tried to install by copying an existing Logos installation, that may be the issue. If that's the case, let us know, and don't proceed with the suggestion below.
Assuming the installation worked OK, and the disk scan you performed was sufficiently thorough, then file corruption is the next possible candidate. It's likely that the problematic file is C:\Users\Ken\AppData\Local\Logos5\Documents\s52akk5q.jai\LocalUserPreferences\PreferencesManager.db
Elsewhere on the forum, Logos staff have suggested deleting that file to stop crashes, so I presume it's safe to do so. That would be my suggestion, but I can't guarantee it will work.

Apparently the drive was okay. It did have to "reparse" some files but that was it. The computer started up no problem after the check. I did a repair of the L5 installation from the control panel. Still wil not start. I would hate to have to download and reinstall again. It seems you have to download your entire library each time. That is almost 16gb for me. Takes a good day to do it.

It appears I have both a "userPreferences" and a UserPreferences2" file. Should I delete the "userPreferences2" file altogether and delete the PreferencesManager.db in the "UserPreferences" file as well?

Okay, I deleted the "UserPreferences2" file altogether and deleted the contents of the "Userpreferences" folder and tried to start up. SUCCESS!!! Thanks so much Mr. Barnes.

Kenneth - Glad you have it up and running. [:)]

Just for clarification: the suggestion was not to delete everything... just to do a reinstall of the engine. Your library would have been left in place. Doing a reinstall of the engine functions similarly to a normal update.
