Coming soon to Logos
APRIL 2ND 2013
It would be great if Logos did a feature on the official Logos Blog to give it the launch it deserves.
A truly remarkable bible: a radical pioneering dynamic equivalent translation, that is not bound by traditional renderings of the text, rich in the English language, this bible will enrich your bible study, also pre-dates the modern trend of gender inclusive language.
I know of no other bible software that contains the full text of the NEW ENGLISH BIBLE. Do you?

Can you tell me the primary reasons why you like the NEB so much?
Bruce
Thanks for asking the question.
First of all let me say,
My no 1 bible is the ESV, I trust a word for word translation, for personal devotions and bible study.
My church bible is the NIV,
The reason I like the NEB is because there is warmth to reading. It is certainly not a bland and sterile like some other modern translations. It breaks with traditional rendering of the text, which I find refreshing. It is richer in the English language than other translation (with the exception of the KJV).
It is also controversial, does not play it safe and has a bit of edge. I don't think the original Hebrew and Greek text are always as neat and tidy as is presented in a lot of modern translations.
Would I use it on a Sunday morning as the main text? No. Maybe the odd verse if relevant. The only time I have seen it in a church was in a dusty old methodists church as pew bible.
It predates the modern trend for inclusive language.
The main strength of the NEB is as a comparison bible. It will force you into original languages as you ask why does NEB translate it this way? To be sure you will noy always like its translation.
A major plus for me is that it is a British bible.
I love the NEB warmth, I am challenged by it and sometimes I disagree with it.

The only time I have seen it in a church was in a dusty old methodists church as pew bible.
I have seen it in use in several congregations in the Church of Scotland. Buckie North Parish Church of Scotland still has it in use as pew bibles!
Personally, I like to refer to it from time to time, especially in the Old Testament, because the OT translation was led (dominated?) by Professor SIr Godfrey Driver whose knowledge of cognate languages was incredible. As a result the translations of several passages are miles away from the KJV/AV. Also the English style and vocabulary are rich and beautiful. The poetry passages are especially good. That's why I am looking forward to having it in Logos.

Every blessing

Thanks PA and Alan for weighing in on it. I appreciate you taking time to explain your excitement. You convinced me, and I just placed my order. I have used the NEB in the past but not that often. Your comments kind of get me excited to use it more. Most years I like to read the Bible through in a different version just to mix it up. It sounds like the NEB is a good candidate for next year.
The NEB is in its final stages of production. It will be available in mid-May.
April 2nd on Monday
Mid May[O]on Tuesday
Is it because they need extra time to get enough fireworks for the grand launch.
