Logos 4 APPCRASH Error Message

I tried to install the Logos 4 crossgrade from the dvd today. I ran the install program and it said it was completed. Wehn i went to open the program it crashes during startup and refuses to open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with the same result. I am working with vista. any suggestions?

I assume you installed to the default HDD locations. Is that correct?

Two suggestions:

1 - try to run as administrator (if you're not already) and see if that helps.

2 - enable logging and post the log here.

To enable logging hold down the CTRL key immediately after you click the L4 icon on the desktop. Keep it down until you see a dialog. Then choose to load to a blank page (not the home page), and see if you can run.

If it crashes, go to My Documents/Logos Logs/ (or something like that) and see if it generated a log file. If so, come back here and post it to a reply to this, or your own message. Click the paperclip (2nd from right on same line as smiley face) and navigate to the log file.

I tried to hold down the crtl key, but it doesn't do anything. it gives the same error dialog, with no ability to load anything.

There is nothing like a logos log file in the documents folder. When I do a search for anything logos, all I come up with is two shortcuts for Logos Bible Software 4.

I notice you are not running the latest version.

Try downloading from here http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe and installing, perhaps whatever bug is hindering you has been fixed already.

downloaded that. that setup won't even run. it says "this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" and then crashed.

Hmm, how odd. If I were you I would gather up all of my system configuration information and call tech support.

Hmm. Something is obviously messed up somewhere.

If you go to the WIKI there are instructions there about how to enable logging. For me, I have to download it and run it, as Firefox simply opens it as an editable file (which may be because I have FF setup to do that).

If you haven't already called tech support, as Kevin suggested, do so. Be prepared to give info about your OS, the amount of RAM, your CPU, your video card & video RAM, as well as your HDD size and free space. There may be some other questions they have, as well. (I've found that a freeware program called SIW gives a lot of detailed system information and requires no installation.)

The only time I've seen it is when I've tried to install L4 on a Linux machine (no luck yet). But I believe it's something related to the .NET installation. Go to the add/remove programs app in the control panel of Windows and reinstall/ Repair .NET.

It's not a DEP related crash, is it? Disable DEP for Logos and see how things go.
