It has, recently been proven that you do not need to have Logos 4 installed, yet I did not do the copy/paste routine of the named directories, instead did a direct download of the library, and let it index....

Use Method 3 of the wiki as that avoids another big download and install Logos 5 as directed.

Yes, you can. BUT, and that is a really BIG BUT, you will get the "ALL" the L4 files with it.
-Inside each of those folders are files that contain info that was/is carried over from doing L5 UPGRADE WITH L4 already installed on a system.
-To releave ones-self of having issues when you start L5 from just an L5***.exe setup [downloaded setup file] I strongly suggest that you get everything from the Logos HQ server.
-yes it does take a while to get the -in some cases- massive download, but then you do not get unnecessay/unwanted duplicate files.
-From a voice of experience, I copied the named folders to an external drive before I brought over the named folders from a system that already had L4 on it and was "UPGRADED", and had some issues when I started L5
-knowing already what was causing the issues, I deleted the carried over folders, brought back the folders and copied just the "resources" folder from the previouse.
-Restarted the system, restarted L5 and just let it do the normal "preparing Library" and "Indexing". Then let it sync, did another warm boot and everything went fine. I checkd the files from the NEW folder Logos5 with the folder of a system that "UPGRADED" L4 to L5 and there was a significant difference. I did not have a bunch of files that were "Logos4*****.*"....
Hope this helps...[sorry don't mean to rain on anyones parade, but false intel is fly-ing about....]

Ok, ONE[two] question:
If I copy the folders over from a Computer system that had L4 UPGRADED to L5, to a system that loaded L5 from the Logos5setup.exe[downloaded from the website] and is running L5, will it not also contain the Logos4***.* files as well?
If so: then why do I need those files? Logos5 runs without them.....[re-read what I wrote and re-read "Method 3"]

You appear to be asking why the "PanelExporter" and "ResourceXpsMedia" folders are not present in your new Logos 5 install. The answer is simple: these are cache folders that are created on demand. They will contain at most a few hundred KB of files. You are right in a sense that there's absolutely no point in copying them from one machine to another. However, the "savings" of not copying those folders are dwarfed by the cost of having to re-download all resources.
I think we are done here. [;)] Dave is still da' man!

No, you missed it, I wasn't asking why(?) certain folders weren't there, I already knew, since they are cache files/folders then I can delete them a hundred x's a day, they will rebuild themselves when needed.
So you are saying that I should copy dead folders from one machine to another....correct? even tho those folders have no resounding effct as to the functionality of running L5 on a clean machine when using a setup file that comes directly from Logos HQ themselves...? [if that is not bad intel, then we are in for a serious headache]
-why would anyone want to copy a folder that is no longer being used by a program that has been UPGRADED?
-knowing already what was causing the issues, I deleted the carried over folders, brought back the folders and copied just the "resources" folder from the previouse.
Again, you failed to read through....but I DO appreciate you earnest attempt.
peat and re-peat.

i can't answer for anyone else But i can answer for myself. Obviously you would be one who would prefer not to have them. For me I would have no problem copying them because there is no negative side effect to L5, the space the folders take up is negligible, and I would rather copy and paste a couple such folders then spend countless hours downloading with my slow DSL service. I can imagine it being an issue For those who have a limited monthly bandwidth too.

I am walking out the door, but your statement was intriguing. So in a brief, consider this:
Any programmer worth his salt would agree – “In the computing world, redundancy can slow a system down…a clean system is by far a smoother and better running system…” Mr. Gates.
Have a good day.....

Personally, I do not appreciate starting another thread, there is nothing wrong with this one. So let's bring the conversation back to where it started and not go chasin'wabbits....

If you want to ask a question or query something, then you do it in a new thread. You don't interrupt another user's query or issue, OK!
1. You haven't stated what you have done to get here, but I'll assume you have attempted (a variation of) Method 2.Room4more said:2. Do you have 3 distinct Logos Accounts, because you have 3 User Id's (random numbers) in the \Data folder? This could also come about because you copied the random folder to the Data folder from different installations over time.
3. Method 2 works because it copies the essential Data, Documents AND Users folders to ensure integrity i.e if you have 1 or more Logos accounts in one installation it will correctly copy them ALL to another installation, and the Users folder makes sure the login details of each account are carried over.
4. If you selectively copy different folders because of a perception that they are not needed in a new installation then
- saving a hundred MB or so is simply not worth it
- if you get it wrong you run into problems
- it requires extra time and steps!

-NO-, on all your inquiries, this is a LOGOS HQ doing. I have one account, the same account since Logos/Libronix '2', if by chance what you state is correct:
-then L5 install on the NEW hd would have generated the same sequential numbering/lettering of account folder(s).
-The only thing I copied to the L5 data was the "resources" folder.
-If what you say is true then I would have a duplicate folder name "tuct1...." in the same Logos4/data/ since that would be the most current folder by which the upgrade to L5 would have gotten/generated it's information [license, resources, etc., etc.]-OR- it whould have[SHOULD HAVE] overwritten the most current, which would have been the "tuct1..."
-other than the last pic, this is the same system.
**No manipulation of the pic, no cut/paste to test your savvy. Original file/folder display as would be visible on the screen when going thru the filing system...**
Sorry to disappoint you.
Dave's Comment:
Dave Hooton said:Room4more said:-then L5 install on the NEW hd would have generated the same sequential numbering/lettering of account folder(s).
A new install generates a new random User Id. So that picture is what I would expect (the Users folder ties your account Signin details to that User Id).
Room4more said:-If what you say is true then I would have a duplicate folder name "tuct1...." in the same Logos4/data/ since that would be the most current folder by which the upgrade to L5 would have gotten/generated it's information [license, resources, etc., etc.]-OR- it whould have[SHOULD HAVE] overwritten the most current, which would have been the "tuct1..."
If there were problems during the installation I have seen two User Id folders, but not for a long time. The upgrade to Logos 5 should have re-used the "tuct1 ..." folder and you should not have ended up with 3 User Id's! Which means you can delete the "tuct1...." and "ay1xo...." folders in both Data and Documents, leaving the single L5 folder "ua2dsk....", which should also be in both Data & Documents folders.
Room4more said:Sorry to disappoint you.
To the contrary, I'm disappointed by your reaction to my questions.
To which I again replied:

So then whats your problem? Why do you think I manipulated the system?

Well there were no problems with the initial install of L4, then there was an 'update' of L4 - again no problems, a package update so to speak; then the UPGRADE to L5 - again no problems.
So again whats your problem? Maybe LogosHQ isn't as forth coming with intel to you as you may have thought - Maybe they have withheld pertinant config details that are perhaps just too much for you, perhaps<?> AND that is WHY no one from HQ has gotten invloved with our little conversation(s)....perhaps<?>
Dave Hooton said:Room4more said:Sorry to disappoint you.

Funny, I get the distinct impression that you are, I said -NO- seems pretty straight forward to me. I know what I have -you don't. I know what I have and have not purchased -you don't. Why would you want to make a brash assumption that you know.....when the reality is you DO not.[am I talking to XXXX? it seems like it] Moving forward - your assumptions are/were wrong.
And in passing I added:

Dave,
I think that I still have my winXP laptop. Let me check, because that would have the L3 upgrade to L4 all on it, then the appropriate 'updates' of L4. It might take a few hours or so but If I remember correctly, I believe that the same scenario existed.....which always concerned me that I had "dead folders" -be patient, you might be surprised.

There thats better. This contains the flow of "continuity" thats needed to follow any conversation. Let us not keep starting new threads like was done just a week or two ago. Let's stay right here.......we are not engaged in scripting call/sub-call routines. So let us move forward and hold to the continuous flow.....shall we.

You lose continuity when you insist on shouting (18pt fonts) and boldfacing eveything. (I'm sorry, are you struggling with poor eyesight?)
You lose continuity when you have so many typographical errors or mispelled words in every post (converation.)
You especially lose your readers when you talk down to others.
Now where did I put my wacky graphics box?

As an after thought about my script size. it is what the forum offers so that is what I have to use. Now if they would give me back the ability to use my own like I did before, oh how much more convenient that would be, it would not appear[by using their script] that I was yelling.
Maybe they will reconsider....
TO DAVE:
i won't post a screen shot but the winxp has the same scenario but just two: ay1x0.... and us2dsk..... i have to go, but will check back shortly.

Dave based on what you said to me earlier, heres another on yet another NEW hdd, and you can clearly see that the "userID" is quite different that the others I posted. Same process:
-download Logos(5)setup.exe
-load the same
-copy JUST the resources folder
-perpare, index, sync.
Enjoy:

It is hard to comprehend everyone else is able to post with regular text and you were singled out by the forum moderators to post only in boldface and frequently with caps lock on. Just hard to believe.

Naww. I do not feel "singled out" probably a forum change across the board. I noticed Dave made some comments last eve on other threads and I was hoping that when I awoke today that I would read how this statement he made is not exactly true.
Now it was said to me that Dave is the 'go to' for Logos software because he knows everything there is to know about Logos. But I have (4)four hd's that all have the same "USER ID" numbers/letters folder.
Now I used two(2) different Logossetup.exe files that were downloaded at two different times, also two(2) had a copy of the resources folder and two(2) downloaded from the Logos HQ server. All have my account name and I only have ONE account - the same one I have had from the beginning.....
During the Installs of the Win OS's there were no issues or problems also there were no issues or problems during the installation of Logos5, so that rules out any differences that he spoke of earlier.
Regardless of what he may think of me - I would still like to read his reply......I don't consider 'silence' here a sign of virtue:
