BUG: spinning beachball

clicked on ESV shortcut to open resource (no other resources open - blank layout) and got the usual spinning beachball - made me dizzy. Getting a lot of this behavior when opening one resource or a layout in L5. Tried the new logging app with the sample button - hope this sheds some light on this. Posting two logs that may be identical - I wasn't sure if the sample button also archive logs.

The first two logs are the same - opening ESV; which took a long 2.7s (expect 0.7s) online. The last log showed a layout opening offline in 12s with individual resource timings more "normal" (max. 1s) whereas one guide panel took a long 2.2s. It would have been ideal to see how long opening ESV would take.

What happens opening the same layout online? How long does the ESV take to open offline? You could run logs for those scenarios.

The ESV took about the same time offline - 2.8s. The layout took much longer online - 32s. Did you observe the "spinning beachball" in both cases?

there are no clear recommendations for cases like this, but you should consider

enough free space on the HDD (roughly 15 - 25% of its capacity)
is it fragmented (particularly important for the Indexes)?
check for HDD errors
finally, a full reinstallation (removing all traces of the existing installation, but backup resources & use this method).

"beachball" for both.

only 10% used of a 750 GB HDD

Logos data 4 GB fragmented (always large chunks of fragmentation with Logos) defrag doesn't seem to improve the "beachball".L5 worked great when first released - since that time performance has deteriorated.

no HDD errors, volume structure and permissions good

i'll think about the reinstall
