Walter Brueggemann Collection in Prepub
Walter Brueggemann Collection (24 vols.) http://www.logos.com/product/25191/walter-brueggemann-collection ships March 15th. I searched for posts regarding Walter Brueggeman and found one back in 2010 but not a recent post. I am excited about this collection. I recently purchased his "Theology of the Old Testament" and am enjoying it. What can you tell me about Walter Brueggeman? How does he stand in regards to Fundamentalist - Liberalist? Do you recommend his writings? If so why? If not, why not? Thank-you for your help.

I highly recommend everything that he writes. While I do not always agree with him, he does make me think, and that is a good thing.

Brueggeman is a poetic exegete. He is passionate about the biblical text and eloquent in his expression of it. His commentary on Genesis in the Interpretation series is a rhetorical wonder that provided me with one of the most satisfying engagements I have ever had with an interpretive text.
I find classifying his theology to be a difficult task. I experience him as a mainline scholar with a passionate evangelical spirit. His work has immense gravitas for me, so that even when I disagree with him, I feel compelled to pay attention to what he says.
I highly recommend Walter Breueggemann.

I have read his Old Testament Theology and found it very intriguing and challenging. I didn't necessarily agree with all of it, but it was a required text for Bruce Waltke's Old Testament Theology class which I was TA-ing at the time, and if Waltke recommended/required it, that endorsed it for me (though his main assignment for that book was to have people critique it).
I also heard him speak in person and he was a lovely man. I agree with the previous poster's assessment that he's a mainline scholar with an evangelical spirit. I'm really looking forward to this collection. I've dabbled in a few of his other books, and all of them seem top notch.

Thank-you for your comments. I have come across his name in a number of places in my studies and everything that I have read about him has been positive. I was surprised that more of his work was not available in Logos. So I am excited about having these resources available in my Logos library. I had googled his name before placing my post and read some very encouraging remarks in wikipedia and other websites but wanted to get a feel for him from fellow Logos users. I wanted to see what your personal experience with his works has been. Thank-you again for sharing. I hope that perhaps others who have been considering this collection will take the plunge as well. I realize that for many of us finances are an issue. I have recently upgraded to platinum, there are some other works in prepub that will soon be released that I want to obtain, Word Biblical Commentary is on sale until the end of March, and March Madness is underway and my wish list is constantly growing. There are so many good resources available in Logos, sometimes it is hard to choose which ones to add to my library.

Coming from a relatively conservative tradition (SBC), one of the texts I read in O.T. (by a liberal leaning prof) called the professor the father of modern liberalism RE the O.T. .
The professor also said of him, that Brueggeman is Weak on Inerrancy, and that when it comes to interpretation, he often stands upon a slippery slopes, as he leans away from the hermeneutic endorsed by the school wherein we seek to understand the historical, cultural, etc setting when we seek to understand scripture.
All that being said, Its good to read opinions you don't necessarily agree with.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,
