Selecting long portions of text

I know it may seem counterintuitive, but sometimes I like to copy and paste a long section of a Logos book in to Word and then print it out, so I can read it and mark it up as I go. I cannot find an easy way to select long portions of text accurately, other than scrolling, and that's difficult for long sections.

I thought that if I clicked on the starting point, then scrolled to to the ending point, and Shift-clicked, that would work, but it doesn't. Has anyone figured out an easy way to do this?

There have been discussions on this not being easy to do in the past but I have just tried it and it seems to work fine.

Are you running on Windows or Mac?
Roughly what amount of text are you trying to copy?
Have you tried using Print/Export instead of Copy/Paste?

Hi, Graham. Let me first say that scrolling appears to be much faster than it used to be, so maybe this isn't such a big deal.

I'm on a Mac. I'm copying about 20 pages in a hardcover book (a chapter in Grudem's Systematic Theology). I haven't tried Print/Export - I'll take a look at it.

Wow! I hadn't realized how much better Print/Export is now. I think I'll be just fine with this option.

One question about the Print/Export option - I wonder why if, in the outline of the book's contents on the left, you select the checkbox for a whole chapter, it doesn't automatically select each subsection as well - currently I have to individually check every subsection and sub-subsection within the chapter.

Right-click on the chapter checkbox and you will get a "Select All" option - this selects all sections within the chapter

Right-click on the chapter checkbox and you will get a "Select All" option - this selects all sections within the chapter

I don't believe this is "industry standard" or intuitive by any means. Too bad LOGOS choses to go a very convoluted UI route. In another post Bob spoke against right click menus (if my memory serves me right) so this is doubly disappointing.

Bob has - I believe - spoken about "overloading" the right-click menu but many things in Logos are accessed via "right-click" so it's always an option worth trying[:)]

He is opposed to "cascading fly-out" menus, but not right-click menus in general.

I believe I have complained about this before and they simply said "by design." The right-click method works, but it certainly is non-intuitive. I wish they'd decide the design was flawed to begin with and change it as per user requests.

I agree about Print/Export, but it wouldn't be a good idea everywhere. Let's say I want to turn on an interlinear:

Now, I wouldn't be too happy if checking that first box automatically checked all the others, and I had to uncheck all the ones I don't want every single time.

A three-state checkbox would be the standard control to use and would work nicely in both locations. (Select All, Select None, Custom Selection)

yes!!! which is "industry standard" and the common paradigm for users. There is NO advantage to the current Print/Export checkbox system.
