Can anyone give me some info on Fortress Press?  How would you rate their products?  Would you recommend their Jesus Studies Collection?

You might try looking up reviews of individual titles on amazon.

Fortress Press is the "academic" arm of Augsburg-Fortress, the publisher of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.  This is the "liberal" (really more main-line) branch of Lutherans in the USA.  They are known for publishing many quality academic works - many translations from German, but also works written in English, including many of NT Wright's works.

Looking at the actual collection, I wish I had the money...  Hegel's and Lohfink's works are classics in their field.  Some of the other works are by significant authors as well, from a wide variety of perspectives.

On the other hand, some others look like things I would not be interested in.

If at all interested, I would go to www.bookreviews.org to search out reviews.

Fortress has an academic history and generally publishes authors of a more liberal persuasion (not always of course). Hengel, Jeremias and Witherington, for example, are fairly conservative. Hengel's Crucifixion is an absolute classic in conservative scholarship, while Vermes', The Real Jesus I find to be heinous in its conclusions. Just my opinion-- but I think Paul would probably agree [;)]

I'm a seminary professor and a Fortress writer (actually, co-editor and contributor). Among the church-related presses, Fortress is the most respected academic publisher, especially in biblical studies. You'll have to decide whether or not the particular volumes in this series interest you. They cover a wide range of topics and publication dates -- I can say that I recognize all of the authors and titles but one. Does this help?
