I'm setting up a forum for members to share their opinions and feelings; but restrain them from posting new thread or news. If i invite them as a follower, they can't read the group reading, documents. Any suggestions?

Yes, use a blog and not a forum.
I agree - I think a Blog is what you are really wanting to do… namely to create posts and allow others to respond, but not to give others the ability to create their own posts. Have you looked into wordpress?

On the group's faithlife page, go to group settings:
and restrict the member's capabilities from "post" or more to "reply"

Nothing to be embarrassed about, she never mentioned faithlife, guess you need to be on faithlife at the same toooo, never occurred to me that I need to be a mind-reader as well....I am going back out to the woods, at least there I can see what the animals are doing.....no guess-work involved.
