What is that on the far right margin?

I haven't yet figured out exactly the purpose of the material that pops up in a box as I move my cursor along the far right margin of a resource. I see it's more material from the same resource (I think), but some of them I could not relate to the text directly across from it. They look like little markers of various colors. What is the meaning of this?

Can you take a picture of what you are referring to (or at least the title of the box)?

Those are little bookmarks in the scrollbar (commonly called treadmarks). You can turn them on off in your Tools > Program Settings 'Show Auto and Favorite Bookmarks'.
They drive you crazy since you can't manually clear them, but they are periodically handy.

But what is their intended purpose? I just went thru a few more and they don't seem to relate to the the material on the page on which they are found.

I think the auto and favorite bookmarks are those that the program auto-selected (based on what?) or actual bookmarks I had previously made. Since, in this particular resource I have not made any, all that shows are the auto ones.
I think the search bookmarks might be based on previous searches in my search history?
Hoping someone can tell me if I'm wrong or right on these assumptions.

There are a number of things that you could be looking at. A screen shot would help us to "see what you are seeing."

You posted your follow up before I got my post out. [:)]
Do you have any search box open (even if hidden under other tabs) in your current layout?

Here's what I'm referring to where, in the right panel, a page from my resource is displayed. It's those hash marks in gray or yellow where when I run my cursor over them a box pops up with text in it from a different part of that resource....

On my computer (Mac), the Orange hash marks represent a current search. Once the search box is closed, the orange marks disappear. The various shades of grey/black represent how long you have viewed a passage.

The auto ones are where you have linked into the resource, or performed a lookup, or directed it to go yourself.

They are. Switch this off in Settings (Search Bookmarks).
