I would like to know how to find out how many times a word or derivative of a word is used in the Scriptures. And is there a way to break it down to the NT an OT
Can you give an example of what you'd like to search for. I'm not sure what you're asking is possible, but we might be able to get close.
BTW, you may want to try the Bible Word Study tool. It may be a partial answer (at least) to what you're wanting to do. This is available in Logos3 (Libronix) as well as Logos4, though I'm not sure it is included in every base package, or only in certain ones.
I was wanting to know how many times Thanksgiving was used in the Word. And from that how many times thanks was used. Thank you for answering
Oh, that's easy! Glad you asked something I think I can answer!
I just did this with the NIV (it should work with any Bible):
Open your favorite Bible, if it isn't already open.
From Libronix click "Search" and it should open a Bible search automatically.
In Logos4 click the Search icon and make sure "Bible" is selected, and your favorite Bible is also selected as the search target
Type in the word thank and hit enter.
The results will include thank, thankful, thankfulness, thanks, thanked, etc. Basically any word with the letters 'thank' in them.
In Logos4 the results can be viewed in three different ways (4, if you have 4.0a Beta3), so pick the one you like best.
Note that this search gives trustworthy results, but that's not always the case. Sometimes Logos guesses wrong. And if you do a word like save it doesn't pick up salvation or savior. Nor does it pick up synonymns. Did you think to search for grateful or gratitude (e.g.)?
To get only results for a specific word (thanksgiving and not thanks): in Libronix put the word in quotes "thanksgiving" for Logos4 uncheck the box "Match All Word Forms" in the search panel.
But this should get you going in the right direction.
