Hello Friends,
I am inquiring about Wallace's Greek Grammar, found here: https://www.logos.com/product/8286/greek-grammar-beyond-the-basics
I am wondering if it is the older second edition, or if has been updated to the new third edition? The picture suggests it is still the second edition, but I want to be sure.
That's definitely not the 3rd ed. I think you're getting confused with Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar 3rd ed by William Mounce.
Tom,
We are both partially correct. It may just be the second edition. Either way, I know the cover that is displayed on logos is that of the older edition (either first or second) and the new version looks like this : http://www.amazon.com/Grammar-Beyond-Basics-Daniel-Wallace/dp/0310218950/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363655793&sr=8-1&keywords=wallace+greek+grammar+beyond+the+basicsI know they are quite different as my classmates and professor both have the two different versions. I've been using the BDF, but I'd like to be able to keep up with their examples in the newest edition of the book.
I'm confused or you are...the link you gave to Amazon has a new cover but it's still the 1996 edition which is the first edition...They have probably fixed a few typos but it can't be substantially different.
Are you sure you aren't thinking of http://www.amazon.com/Basics-Biblical-Grammar-William-Mounce/dp/0310287685 which is in its third edition.

Nope, I'm positive. My professor has both of these editions and he said the page numbers are substantially off between the two. I have no reason to presume otherwise of his assessment that it is more useful to have the more recent edition.
I guess you'll have to get the ISBN from your prof and let us know how to get the 3rd edition.
Thanks!
AFAIK there is only one edition of GGBB (though after it came out it later came out with appendices, I think - is that the so-called Second Edition? - as well as an abridged version, The Basics of NT Syntax, that was first printed with a Barney the Dinosaur purple cover).
Per Zondervan's page the dark blue edition is the same ISBN-13 as my earlier aquamarine cover edition. http://zondervan.com/9780310218951
I spoke with Daniel Wallace at an ETS meeting book table about a year ago, I think, in Fort Worth re: how soon the new edition of GGBB would come out and whether or not I should wait for that rather than buy it now in Logos. At the time he said it would be at least 5 years before the next edition of GGBB would be out.
One reason I haven't gotten it in Logos is because I understand they didn't do the appendices or there are some other problems or notable omissions, from some comments I've read here. I.e., it's still not quite ready for prime time.
There is no second edition.
This is all fascinating information. Does anyone know then if perhaps the old aqua cover and the new blue cover are different in size only, and that is why the page numbers would be off?
That could be the explanation. At an ETS Conference when the new dark blue one came out, I believe Verlyn Verbrugge mentioned that they were now printing these in China with this good but thinner paper, which made the books noticeably thinner than the aquamarine first printings. Since there was apparently no difference in content, I never "upgraded" to the dark blue version. And because of the aforementioned problems and the fact that I haven't been able to get a decent discount on it, I have not bought GGBB in Logos yet.
So the Logos version doesn't have the index, as I understand it. My question is, is that really that necessary given that it is an e-version that is easily searchable for content?
IMHO, there's a slight but significant difference. A ready-made index, for instance, could give you a quick overview of what kind of syntactical considerations predominate in a given book or chapter of the Bible.
I do not know how to generate such information within Logos without having to go through many steps.
This is why I am frustrated by Logos' decision not to have the index. Apparently other software versions of GGBB carried the index. I thought its omission was a bad decision.
