General Question About Resources that Need Updates

Hi,

This is just a general kind of question. I am not trying to accuse or be nasty or anything. I really love Logos 5 and the new features in it. But I am curious.

Today, there were 132 resources that were updated in my library. Is there a website that might list what exactly was changed in those resources, or why they needed to be changed? Here is why I ask. What if say in the next 10 years, a certain kind of behavior or sin was deemed by our society to to be normal and good and upright, and it was decided that legally books could not speak negatively about that behavior or sin? Could Logos be forced to change our resources, and then they would update without our knowing, so that all of sudden the teaching in those resources was "modified?"

Or, to use another example. What if it was decided that all resources should be modified to have gender neutral language. Could it ever happen that our resources would be updated to the new gender neutral language without our knowledge, and they would all of a sudden be modified as we are downloading updated resources?

Again, this is not meant to accuse Logos of anything. I am just curious.

We are able to easily see what resources have been updated, however I know of no place one can go to see what changes have been made to each resource.

Logos does not change the resources, they only publish the resource in a format that works in their software. Because Logos is an American company, there is no way the government can force Logos (or any of the other publishers) to change their resource to be politically correct (because of our freedom of speech and freedom of the press rights in our Constitution).

While I personally am not convinced your scenarios could happen, I believe the accurate answer is that Logos has a license to what the publisher has published. The publishers would have to revise their publication, renegotiate the license Logos to make the new product a replacement, etc. ...

Logos does not even correct typos that are in the original publication without publisher approval. The updates are for tagging with new features and correcting tagging or typos that were incorrecti/incomplete ,,

Hi Kevin, to the best of my understanding, right now the only thing that Logos is authorized to "change" on any publisher's works are things such as spelling errors in the form of a typo that was not in the original print version, formatting errors and updating to new formats and such. In other words, the things that got messed up during the conversion from the print to the electronic. I think that Logos is still in the progress of updating a lot of resources from the old Libronix format to the newer Logos format. If you have by any chance just upgraded from Libronix to Logos, this may have been the reason that you seen a large update.

To address your other concern about laws changing and such I don't think that you have a lot to worry about. First, the United States (where Logos is based) has a pretty strong constitution concerning freedom of speech. If such a worst case scenario were to happen you would surely hear about the law being enacted as congress would not easily enact such a law. Second, if such type of government would come in to power, I think that history shows that they would not take such a mediocre stance as a "everything has to be gender neutral" position. History, in my opinion, shows that such a government would either ban Logos and put them out of business or make such strong regulations on religions that it would be quite obvious to us. Third, I think that even if a law was passed so secretively, that Logos would somehow get the message to us by establishing such a web site or other method.

In short, I don't think that you have any thing to worry about when it comes to laws being changed in such a manner that it would go under our noses undetected. Even if Logos would be forced to do something like you mentioned without telling us, there are a lot of smart people (from lay persons to theologians) using the software and they would more than likely notice the changes and get the word out to those of us who are not really as well versed as them in noticing these kind of things.
