I download Alpha 7 and it downloaded fine but it is taking forever to prepare my library. Any input why?
Check the release notes regarding an indexing bug that was fixed and thus requires a longer indexing time.
Dustin,
As long as the little blue logos icon is in the menu bar in the upper right hand corner, it should finish. If the icon is gone, it could be that the indexer has crashed. If the icon is gone, you will probably want to post your logs in this thread. (See Joe's YouTube video or the Having Trouble with the Mac alpha thread for info on how to do post your logs.)
Thanks,
Tom
It finally finished and is working well. Thanks.
Tom, my A7 in indexing, but I have no blue icon... see

Okay, that makes sense. I noticed that I did not have any indication of new indexing even though the release notes said it would index again. I didn't think to check the logs.
I mentioned this in another thread, too, but what the screencast above shows isn't exactly re-indexing, or, at least not what most people understand that term to mean .
There are actually multiple indexes used by the software. The one that most people are concerned with is the one that takes hours to generate and/or modify, which is the LibraryIndex. The screencast here shows re-indexing of the LibraryCatalogIndex, which happens during various operations (tagging, rating or renaming resources OR syncing of the same) and is not directly related to re-indexing the LibraryIndex.
It's probably also worth noting that if you're missing the LBI ("Little Blue Icon"), but you think that Logos4Indexer may still be running, a quick check using the Activity Monitor app will show you straightaway whether or not the Logos4Indexer is, in fact, still running.
My system is barely functioning and even opening web pages is slowed by the library rebuilding. My Mac is heating up and the fans are running hard. Should the library rebuilds be as resource intensive as indexing?
i have sort of the same issue but i dont have any resources. the program opens up but there is nothing in my library, resources and even search.
No. They only take a few seconds, if that. When your machine gets like that, it might be interesting to see what Activity Monitor has to say about what is actually consuming those resources. The heat issue is probably going to be primarily disk and/or CPU related.
