Hopes the little kitten has better luck than I did with NIB, although i suspect it is easier to get people to get a new Bible than a 12 volume commentary. There are are no translation notes in it but I am lucky to have the REB text in Accordance. I have put my order in for the REB but not sure the goal of getting the REB under contract before May will be possible.

Are you saying that if Richard orders the REB that you will then be silent? I find that difficult to believe. [;)] I seem to remember a saying to suggests that even if a cat is killed it has more lives.

Poetic, fresh translation with no constraints (i.e.: we can't drift too far from KJV/RSV/NRSV)… It is more conservative in it;s translation choices than the NEB and does't rearrange the texts as greatly as the NEB did.

Here are a few examples:

Psa. 46:0 (REB) ¶ [For the leader: for the Korahites: according to alamoth: a song]

Psa. 46:1 (REB) God is our refuge and our stronghold, a timely help in trouble;

Psa. 46:2 (REB) so we are not afraid though the earth shakes and the mountains move in the depths of the sea,

Psa. 46:3 (REB) when its waters seethe in tumult and the mountains quake before his majesty. [Selah]

Psa. 46:4 (REB) There is a river whose streams bring joy to the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High;

Psa. 46:5 (REB) God is in her midst; she will not be overthrown, and at the break of day he will help her.

Psa. 46:6 (REB) Nations are in tumult, kingdoms overturned; when he thunders, the earth melts.

Psa. 46:7 (REB) The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. [Selah]

Psa. 46:8 (REB) Come, see what the Lord has done, the astounding deeds he has wrought on earth;

Psa. 46:9 (REB) in every part of the wide world he puts an end to war: he breaks the bow, he snaps the spear, he burns the shields in the fire.

Psa. 46:10 (REB) ‘Let be then; learn that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted in the earth.’

Psa. 46:11 (REB) The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. [Selah]

Hab. 3:17 (REB) The fig tree has no buds, the vines bear no harvest, the olive crop fails, the orchards yield no food, the fold is bereft of its flock, and there are no cattle in the stalls.

Hab. 3:18 (REB) Even so I shall exult in the Lord and rejoice in the God who saves me.

Hab. 3:19 (REB) The Lord God is my strength; he makes me as sure-footed as a hind and sets my feet on the heights. [For the leader: with stringed instruments]

Matt. 6:24 (REB) ¶ ‘No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the first and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and despise the second. You cannot serve God and money.

Matt. 6:25 (REB) ¶ ‘This is why I tell you not to be anxious about food and drink to keep you alive and about clothes to cover your body. Surely life is more than food, the body more than clothes.

Matt. 6:26 (REB) Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow and reap and store in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than the birds?

Matt. 6:27 (REB) Can anxious thought add a single day to your life?

Matt. 6:28 (REB) And why be anxious about clothes? Consider how the lilies grow in the fields; they do not work, they do not spin;

Matt. 6:29 (REB) yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his splendour was not attired like one of them.

Matt. 6:30 (REB) If that is how God clothes the grass in the fields, which is there today and tomorrow is thrown on the stove, will he not all the more clothe you? How little faith you have!

Matt. 6:31 (REB) Do not ask anxiously, “What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What shall we wear?”

Matt. 6:32 (REB) These are the things that occupy the minds of the heathen, but your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

Matt. 6:33 (REB) Set your mind on God’s kingdom and his justice before everything else, and all the rest will come to you as well.

Matt. 6:34 (REB) So do not be anxious about tomorrow; tomorrow will look after itself. Each day has troubles enough of its own.

Rev. 11:13 (REB) At that moment there was a violent earthquake, and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake; the rest, filled with fear, did homage to the God of heaven.

Rev. 11:14 (REB) ¶ The second woe has now passed; but the third is soon to come.

Rev. 11:15 (REB) ¶ Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. Voices in heaven were heard crying aloud: ¶ ‘Sovereignty over the world has passed to our Lord and his Christ, and he shall reign for ever!’

Rev. 11:16 (REB) The twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, prostrated themselves before him in adoration,

Rev. 11:17 (REB) saying: ¶ ‘O Lord God, sovereign over all, you are and you were; we give you thanks because you have assumed full power and entered upon your reign.

I am not saying these are necessarily the best examples just several i chose that I know i hadn't shared before… You can see there is nothing radical there but i do value it and like it's cadence and will agree with the person who had said it was the nicest flowing version since the KJV.
