There have been a few threads here about the Retina displays on the newer generation iPads. I've had an iPad 2 for a couple of years, and I use it daily to read copious amounts of material for seminary (Logo & Kindle). I've been perfectly happy with the display on it... until I got a new iPad 4 (128GB wifi) yesterday.

All I can say is, "Wow!" The text in those reading apps is unbelievable. It's so much more pleasant a reading experience. All of the other apps I use regularly (Evernote, Safari, Twitter) look much better, too. But those don't involve extended viewing of fixed material (between page changes) to the degree the reading apps do.

I got it because I wanted the better speed, and I was concerned near-term iOS upgrades would stop supporting the iPad 2. So far battery life seems better. I need to test the wifi more. It fits into my iPad 2 case. But that display... fantastic.

FWIW.
