March Sadness ...

Anyone else a bit "underwhelmed" at the March Madness offerings? I for one am just a bit weary of all the games we have to play to fill our libraries with resources. Lots of build up and then disappointment when something you want is not offered, etc. I wish at times Logos would end the games and just offer all resources at a market competitive price, break up collections so that individual volumes could be purchased, etc., etc. so that when we need something we can go get it and not have to wait for some "game" and hope that what we need is there at the end ...

I am a big Logos fan ... I love the product ... just not a fan of how they market, package, price and sell resources. I know many probably enjoy the chase but I don't have the time or the interest ...

I am simply appreciative of the resources I was able to pick up at discounted prices.

break up collections so that individual volumes could be purchased,

to be fair to Logos they are breaking up lots of collections - see thread at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/41600.aspx?PageIndex=1 for announcements regarding this

Sorry you didn't get what you wanted this time around. I guess I'm on the other side of this one. I thought the offerings wouldn't be that great but I was surprised by a number of great deals on individual resources. Carson being the best but even some of the earlier round sales were good....

I understand your point about being competitive. However if they offered dirt cheap prices for everything and all the time (it'd be great for us), they would probably not make a profit and then a sale would never technically be a sale... Just my two pence....

    All the best,

Well OP it happens you know.  I've felt that way before, but in the end Logos can't please us all.  I upgraded to L5 Bronze and may do Silver or Gold in the near future, but even upgrading to Gold doesn't really catch my interest due to the commentaries offered in the package.  There's some good, but the new additions I feel are not really for me (e.g. Exegetical Summaries) because I really don't have much use for them (especially if I don't own the commentaries mentioned in Exegetical Summaries).  I wish Logos would've brought back the BECNT 8 volumes along with the 7 volume upgrade and keep the PNTC with the upgrades added to it and then throw some more valuable commentaries like WBC, NICNT/OT but the way they downgraded the packages is just not a smart move because the packages as they are aren't that attractive (to me at least).  I just hope Logos 6 won't be filled with "Classic Commentary Collections" or else I guess I will only be buying cross-grades and add books here and there instead of upgrading packages.

As far as sales go, you win some you lose some but this March Madness I was able to get several Carson's books I've always wanted, but last year I got some NT Wright's books but ended up returning them (in spite of the low price) because they were just not for me (I kept one on New Perspectives on Paul) but other than that, the sale didn't fit my needs where as this year's sale it fit my needs.

But anyway, I'm a big Logos fan too and got most of their Spanish books and lots of English books, but when it comes to sales and games, again, they can't please everybody.

    Blessings!

Of all the marketing efforts by Logos, this is the one I like the least. But then I have found that the more one participates in the Community Pricing and Pre-Pub programs, the less interesting are these promotions; I usually have what I want by the time it comes on sale. But not always.

I did buy one book I wanted fairly inexpensively. I may buy another (haven't decided yet).

I don't think they are free just to break up all of the series. I believe the publishers have something to say about that. I really needed one commentary in a series for class, but was they could not break it down and I wasn't going to spend $300+ to buy it.

I almost never buy any resource on these sales.  I don't expect that I will be able to find resources I wish to purchase on many such sales.  Why?  Because sales are for the pop culture.  I don't buy resources because they are popular but because they are academically useful.

lol George...I agree.  I only got one book, a study on 1Cor 12-14 by Carson.  Not because I'm a Carson fan, but my personal study time lately has focussed on these chapters, so a little more reading couldn't hurt, and for $5...well, who's gonna complain.

Personally, I think we should all get together and implore logos to keep all these discounts and simply put PG into production, even if there isn't enough support yet!!!
