Purchase of Logos 5

i am on disability income; thus I can't afford L5. It would be nice & I would be most grateful if there were much bigger discount for those of us on ltd income or chance of winning = free.

Here are some thoughts: Maybe you could enjoy some of the free books that they give away like John Newton Vol.1, NIV Bible, plus other free books through Vyrso. Or if your income permitted maybe do a payment plan for a bronze base package....Also God is a big God; maybe He'll surprise you with someone helping you to get a package...Just a few thoughts.

You don't need to purchase anything in order to get L5 (free). You won't get some of the new features, but perhaps you will be able to purchase the minimal crossgrade at some time to get the new features.

also, Logos does often run contests that involve winning base packages. They have two different contests going on right now. The first closes tomorrow, the second at the end of the month:

God bless!
If you follow the blog regularly (blog.logos.com), you'll have the best chance of seeing the contests, as well as seeing the other free book giveaways that they do.

Firstly, welcome.
I am unsure from your post as to whether you currently have an L4 package and are looking to upgrade or whether you are entirely new to Logos. I thought it worth reiterating, however, that, as mentioned above, the L5 engine is free. You will only have access to limited functionality, but you will be able to access any resources which you own and familiarise yourself with the basic functionality.
As has been mentioned, Logos (and Vyrso, Logos's sister-site), do offer resources at no cost (on a monthly and ad hoc basis). In addition, the Wiki lists free books which can be download and accessed through the free engine, here,
http://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books
In addition, the Wiki hosts an index of personal books created by users of Logos, which can (I understand) be downloaded and accessed through the free engine,
http://wiki.logos.com/User_Contributed_Personal_Books
Blessings

I need a little help in finding the L5 engine that is free. I currently have L4. When I click on "upgrade to L5" I'm taken to a page that gives pricing for purchasing it outright.
Help?

Thanks Graham. One more question. Can I just install the engine and continue to use all the books I've already purchased? If so, why am I being encouraged by Logos to purchase an "upgrade"?

Peace to all! *smile* Also, once the engine has been installed, one can also have access to the free material here: https://faithlifebible.com/

Yes.

Because Logos wants you to buy more books. That's how they stay in business. Free engines don't pay the bills.

with upgrade (at least with minimum cross-grade) you get more/full functionality, like timeline and other additional features + you increase their profit as fgh told you

In addition to the responses you have received already you might want to look at http://blog.logos.com/2012/11/5-ways-to-move-to-logos-5/ where Logos explains the various upgrade options - from their perspective - and the benefits associated with each.
It was written before the free engine was available (so refers to waiting for it) but everything else is still valid.
Hope this helps

Thank you. I am well aware of this. It just looks as though Logos is asking me to repurchase the same books I've already owned for years. That is the reason for my question.

You only pay for those you don't own. Above the titles there is a place where you can click on something like New to you. If you do that, it will filter out everything you fully own, and you will only see that which you don't own, or which you own part of. Also look at the price. You will see that your price is something very different to the full price. (You need to be logged in to do this, of course.)

Let me clarify a few points: thank you all for suggestions. I'm currently using L3.2.3. I'm Catholic & prefer catholicism references. & @ end of month I'm lucky if I have $7 which saving usually ends up for unexpected. The contests I've seen contain non-catholic books. I understand a company is in business to make $$. However, perhaps some higher up on the ladder @ Logos would take charity into consideration for those of us low low ltd income & have contests which are for Catholics. TYIA

I hear you I have a limited income too, and while the payment plan sounds good with your surplus and Logos $5 a month surcharge (all in all a very reasonable financing fee) it would be impossible for you to get it. There has been in the past contests directed via Verbum towards Catholics. Perhaps you can ask St. Jude to pray for you… God loves to provide out of the most bizarre sources as Elijah with the ravens and the window show not to mention the Fish peter caught with the coin in it's mouth to offer the temple tax for him and Jesus.

Then you're looking in the wrong place -- which isn't surprising. Logos is kind of shy of admitting to their Evangelical customers that they sell Catholic books as well, so they hide the Catholic product line quite well.
The place to check is http://scripturestudysoftware.com/. Don't miss the blog. They've had several contests with free Catholic base packages to win, and also a number of free Catholic resources for anyone who wants them to download.
You may also want to go to https://www.logos.com/user/notifications and check the Catholic list. Agreed, it may be a bit depressing to get all the ads for new books that you can't afford, but it may be worth it to make sure you don't miss any free ones.
Other Catholic Logos sites are http://www.facebook.com/logosforcatholics and https://twitter.com/CatholicLogos.
Finally, as has been stated above, the L5 engine is free, and you will eventually need it, as most of the new Catholic resources won't work on L3. You can run both L3 and L5 if your computer can handle it, or you can uninstall L3 and run only L5. Don't forget to sync your licenses in L3 before downloading L5.

Peace! Lots of great ideas in this thread! In the past I've also seen people praising the free Bible Software found at http://www.theword.net/Josh said:RAS said:i am on disability income; thus I can't afford L5. Google "e-Sword"
I personally haven't checked it out; however, it looks great.

Of course, preferring Catholic resources shouldn't stop you from entering contests like http://win.logos.com/?utm_source=newswire&utm_medium=email&utm_content=4445427_zondervan2013_email_newswire_version-B2&utm_campaign=logos2013q2, if the rules allow you to. In the unlikely event that you win, you can always ask Logos if they'll let you exchange the prize for something nicer, and if that doesn't work, sell it and use the money for Catholic resources.

RAS, (I'm also on a disability income, but I manage everyday life. I have very modern medication. I've told earlier on once when I was talking about the Revised English Bible that I have a little bit of epilepsy.)
Email me quickly and I could transfer the following Roman Catholic Logos books to You some days from now for free, I'll also pay the license transfer fee. The only thing I require is that set up a Paypal account and transfer me $1 (then I'll be sure of Your intents). Remove the numbers: info at c33ykel30taxi.se:
I'm a bit unsure if this one would be included but the license for it would, (but I think it would be included if You add the RSV-CE version Yourself, it's currently not on a sale, it was on the MardiGras 2013 sale): Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition New Testament Reverse Interlinearand all of these:
A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture
Co-Workers of the Truth: Meditations for Every Day of the Year, by Ratzinger and Grassl
Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week; From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection, by Ratzinger
The Major Works of Anselm of Canterbury (4 vols.)
The Divine Armory of Holy Scripture, by Vaughan
The Book of Saints, by Benedictine monks of st. Augustine's Abbey
Ecclesiastical Dictionary: Containing, in Concise Form, Information upon Ecclesiastical, Biblical, Archæological, and Historical Subjects
Catholic Pocket Dictionary and Cyclopedia
A Catholic Dictionary, by Addis and Arnold
Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers Second Series (Catholic Edition) (14 vols.)
The Bible Promise Book - Catholic Edition (from Vyrso) This one if You want it otherwise I'll cancel it, it's brief.
I'll need Your name (as in Your Logos -account/bankcard, Your email address). To ensure it's You I'm going to wait several days until I do anything so that if I get multiple emails about this I know that only one is You and I'll have to confirm somehow which one, by posting in this thread. DON'T give me Your email address in this thread, spam bots can detect addresses and start sending spam:RAS said:Let me clarify a few points: thank you all for suggestions. I'm currently using L3.2.3.
