Pre-pub resources in cd rom v. download delivery method

I do not mean to belabor the "how long" will Logos continue to make resources in L3 format given the adoption of L4 by users. But, it is relevant to the four pre-pubs I have in my account now. If they are all in download delivery then they are compatible with L4. However, will there be some wait to get them into L3 format? And I don't know how long the wait will be if there is still the option to have them in L3 and I also don't know if they will be produced before Logos stops supporting L3. This is sticky. Hmm

I am not asking for a date or a time period specifically. What I did was change my pre pubs to cd rom and thus they will first be loaded into L3 and L4 will pick them up. I think??? Can any MVP or Logos personnel confirm this? Please. And thank you for bearing with me

If you can get them on CD in L3 format then they would be available for download in L3 format from the ftp site and therefore after you receive them in L4 you can just download the appropriate files into your resources folder. Make sure you sync your license file first so that you will be able to access them.

Thanks for your response. Is what you are saying that if I get them via cd in L3 format, then that means Logos is still supporting L3, even if the pre pub I signed up for doesn't go "live" for a year or more? Some of them may take longer than Logos intends to support L3. That is my point. And I would still like a definitive answer from an MVP or Logos personnel. Perhaps, just because I have them in my pre pub page as cd roms, then Logos will HAVE to support them as L3 whenever they are produced??? Again, I am not trying to be difficult but I still don't know.

I selected the download option for the Alistair Begg Collection (3 Vols.) which i received today. Guess what, it came with a Logos 3 update script. Open Logos 4 and the resource downloaded as usual. I am still sticking to the download option.

My situation may be a little different than yours. L4 is extremely sluggish and so I have to use L3 because it is workable for me; hopefully there will be some improvements in the future and it will be faster..

My question is probably for Customer Service so I will take it to them next week. At some point, L3 will not be supported and I don't know when that is just like I don't know when my pre pubs will go LIVE; if I go with all downloads, then there may or may not be an update script for L3 as you received. I hope this makes sense.

What I do see in the pre-pubs is this: "If you're using Logos Bible Software 4, you must choose the DOWNLOAD option. The 3.0 CD-ROM or DVD-ROM requires version 3 of the Libronix Digital Library System."

This says to me that if you order it by CD you'll get the Logos3 version. Whether it's possible to get an L3 version by download, I'm not sure how to tell. It would be nice to hear from Logos about this. A simple "Works with Libronix" next to the download option would be enough.

To the question about how long Logos will support Logos3, and how long it will continue to make resources available in Logos3, I've not heard/read anything definitive. But with the schedule for finishing up features extends for the next 6 months, it would be my expectation that resources would be released in both formats until then, and probably for some time after.

My further assumption is that Logos would continue to do so as long as there was a market for these resources to justify their expenses. How long that would be is anybody's guess.

Will you have to wait longer for L3 resources than L4? Let me give some guesses based on what I've read from Logos employees on this forum (but their still guesses based on assumptions). For those things that went into pre-pub before the release of L4, I would assume that they will be published in L3 first and the L4 version will be released later. I would be more confident of that assumption for resources being done by third party publishers. For pre-pubs that transitioned from "Gathering Interest" to "Under Contract" since the offering of L4, there's probably a bit of both (sometimes L3 first, sometimes L4 first). For resources coming onto the scene since the release of L4, I would guess most (all?) would be developed for L4 and then ported for L3.

So Joan, there you have it. Take my guesses for what they are worth. Probably 2 cents.

Thanks for your answer. I assumed most of what you said. For example, I have had Alford's 6 volume pre-pub for what seems a looooong time. So many other things have been released that were not on pre pub near as long, and I know there are good reasons for that. Still, what I don't know is when Alford's is finally done, then will L3 still be supported? And I know we don't have that info. (I don't want to order things in cd rom delivery and pay extra for postage if I can download them and have them still work on L3). So, I will ask CS and try to get clarification. Thanks, again, Rich. I do appreciate all you do. It is a minor issue. [:)]
