hide command window?
Two questions.
1. Is there a way to hide the command window? I don't use it, and need the real estate.
2. Is there a way to move the "layouts" tab back over to the left side of the window? I just installed the logos 5 mac engine a few weeks ago and need it moved. Why? I usually have logos and ms word open, so I can study and write as I go. With the layouts to the right side, I have to resize the window while I'm working to switch between saved layouts.

Not that I am aware of.
I am running a windows version of Logos, so there may be something in the Mac UI that is different and allows for this.

I'm puzzled by this as there is no need to resize the window. When you click on the main Logos window in order to select a layout. This will bring the window to the front where the Layouts menu will be exposed. Even if you move the Layouts button to the left, Logos will still come to the front when you click on it to select the desired layout.

Perhaps you should learn to use it, as it can become a really good time-saver.

I think that David is saying that he uses Word & Logos side by side. I tried thinking of a solution and couldn't come up with one. You could float panels, but it wouldnt include a layout button. Is there a keyboard shortcut for layouts?

The Layouts button is fixed. However, a screenshot would help us appreciate how you work with Word and Logos.

No, but layouts can be placed on the Tool Bar for easy access. I have a few there. The icons are not very definitive, but I tend to remember what I put there. In any case, hovering the mouse will give a popup with the name of the layout.

Forget the jumbled Logos panels, but this is something like what he is doing (I presume).
If you stretch Logos out so that the layout menu is visible, part of the layout is hidden by Word.

If you use a .png or .jpg, it will appear in the thread. Using the normal Mac screen shot commands should produce a .png for you.

If you get a PC you can still see the Layouts menu!
Have Logos full size with your work panes on the RHS and place Word in the opposite half.

Why drag the Logos window until half of it is off-screen? Is there some reason you cannot place Word on the right half of the screen with Logos to the right. Then, your layouts menu would be behind Word. You will need to click on Logos to access the Layout menu no matter how you place the windows, and this action will bring the Layouts menu in front of Word providing access. I have two displays, so my layout would need reconfiguration to fully illustrate my recommendation.

Hi David,
There is no option for moving those items. Shuffling windows like Jack suggested may be helpful, or using CMD+TAB to toggle between windows instead of viewing side by side could be helpful. Personally, I'd say the complexity of the work your doing is worth expanding your work area.
You can get a 23" monitor for pretty cheap these days. That may be a huge help for your workflow, allowing you to put Word on one screen and Logos on the other - or even word+floated logos panels and the main window with the menu on the other screen.

My primary use of the Command Field is to open resources without resorting to the Library window. Just start typing—author's name or resource name—Logos will offer you several options. Just click the one you want.NOTE: Chose Zerwick because there would be just two resources. Had I chosen Carson, the list would have be humongous.The forum seems to be ignoring carriage returns from Safari, and does not display the More button from FireFox [:(]

I was surprised, though, just now, ..... just for fun I typed Carson into the box and although I have many of his volumes, only 5 showed up .... here's a screen shot ... I expected a lot more ....

The command line dropdown menu only displays the top five matches. You can narrow it down by typing a word from the title you're looking for, e.g.
If you're not sure what books by Carson you have in your library and want to see a list of them all, the command line is not the best way to do it. Filtering in the library (author:carson) is the best way:

True, but I was answering the question, "What use do you find for the command box?"
Another answer to that original question: I needed to type "Rebuild Bible Index" to correct a crash just yesterday. Without the Command Field there is no way to enter this command, unless, of course, you had created a shortcut on the tool bar.

I know, but I was answering Milford not you. Sorry if we got off of the original subject of this thread.
Like you, my primary use of the command bar is to open resources without resorting to the Library window. There is a quick reference of Logos Commands that work in the command bar on the wiki: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Commands
Other uses I have found for the command bar include:
- importing my documents from Libronix via the Import All command (and its variants) -- documented in the Logos Help File, but not the wiki I just realized
- lookup {word} to do a quick dictionary lookup of an English word
- scan command when I've had to restore a missing resource that I bought when I had an old version of Logos
- opening a resource when I know only its LLS code using the command LLS:{Resource ID}
- update resources when I can't find a resource that I know I should have
- Set Update Channel to {default|stable|beta} when I was in and out of the beta testing program (which I don't have time for anymore)
- FSD (Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery) - used to use it occasionally but keep forgetting it exists
All the other commands documented on the wiki page seem redundant to me (there's no way I'd type in some long command like "Set Hebrew Transliteration Format to {Transliteration Name}" instead of opening Program Settings and changing a setting there). I'm thinking these commands were probably created for automation purposes.
